Lisa - Thanks for the info. I emailed Glynn and asked him a list of questions. I'm more of a pet only owner but I have some interest in protection training and weight pulling. I wasn't aware of Chi Town and plus I'm very busy these days with school and work so it will be a while before I can really start going to events like that. But I really appreciate all of the info and I will check out that forum (I'm a pretty tough cookie and don't resort to name calling when someone offends me

If you are interested in sport work or WP then you should look at breeders who's dogs have proven themselves in those fields.
I think Bones is just referring to the rough nature of TG...just don't take it too personally. There is tons of great info on there and is a wonderful resource. |

I have had a pretty warm welcome on TG so far. I'm quite pleased and I have already been hit up to buy a pup

1. The breeder is only using dogs that he owns. The odds of a breeder owning nothing but dogs who match up strengths/weaknesses to produce a nice breeding is pretty rare. Will it happen, or is a breeding between 2 good dogs ok to see what they produce? Sure. But more than likely the breeder is simply breeding what he happens to have and not being particularly selective. 2. They changed all the kennel names to reflect their kennel. So they either want the credit (seems to be alot of glory-hounds breeding dogs these days...) or they simply don't know any better. Either way I'd stay away. I also don't think that the BDB breeder listings are NEARLY as selective as the membership on the message board. I've emailed moderators and the site owner about "issue's" with some of the breed descriptions and how it applies to breeders listed in the past, but its unlikely to change. |

I know a few breeders of other breeds so I just kind of wanted to chime in on this.
With AKC it has become quite easy to steal a pedigree and registration number from someone else's dog that has been championed (or whatever) and register a litter with them as the sire even though they aren't. For that reason (and a few others) some breeders are choosing not to post pedigrees or even registered names on their dogs to try to protect themselves. However if you email them they are usually more than happy to provide most of this information. From another forum regarding a conversation with an AKC rep: "I have a dog I purchased with APRI & she asked about his pedigree. He does have AKC in his pedigree, but only one line, so he would not qualify.(From what I understand) She did mention if people have the registered names(I took off my dogs' registered names off my site) of the dog's parents they could track that too & give papers & yes Full reg. From what was written in a prior thread the AKC said they would notify the breeder, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. I gave the scenario of selling a pup without papers for less & the people not wanting to pay for AKC. Well, they can use a pedigree or the parent's registered names & get papers. And yes, Full reg. In theory, they are to contact me, but let's say I say only LTD reg, that would mean the dog can't breed & therefore no further litters registered. A worse scenario would be a pup/dog that had a physical condition that would prevent a breeder from giving papers. AKC would not check anything, but the pedigree. So, I think with this info, it would be best to register the litter AKC & give LTD reg & do it on your online account, so they have record of the litter & pups being LTD." Also, some breeders just don't post their health testing because most puppy buyers don't understand/care, but will gladly give the information if you ask.
