Because I am new, I have been reading so many of the old post here. I do understand where everyone is coming from when it comes to BYB’s. I have only bought one dog in my life time and he is my Chihuahua and he was from a reputable breeder his only problem is his trachea and had to have surgery to fix it. But other than that he is healthy.
All of my other dogs have been rescues. My first as an adult was Rusty a 1 yr old Rottweiler and he was abused very bad, and aggressive because of it, but with a tremendous amount of training he eventually became my service dog and passed all the test with flying colors, but it was short lived because he got cancer. We had to put my sweet boy down at 6 years old. My second Kahlua a Rottweiler pup, he had parvo and needed to be fostered after vet treatments. So I took him in and fell in love but only at 5 months he started limping we found out he had Pano, hip & elbow displasia. And his white blood cells were high. We later found out he had an auto immune disease I can’t remember the name but his body was attacking itself thinking their was an infection. The blood transfusions wouldn’t help him. So we had to put him down at 10 months old. Then their was Hank from another BYB the Mom died and they couldn’t take care of all the pups so I took a couple in to bottle feed them. But it was Hank I fell in love with, they gave him to me. He became very sick rashes, losing hair, had horrible allergies to food and shrubs, then becoming very weak and not himself, after a few vet appointments we found out he had cancer to at 7 months old. We were able to give him another month of life and he had to be put down. You would think I learned my lesson but I feel these dogs need help and when they need foster I always step in hoping that with training and socialization they could find a forever home. But then I fall in LOVE!! But now I have Zoe and she had a rough start her Mom chewed off her tail at delivery, she was the runt half the size of all the others and not doing well so my friend that does rescue asked if I would take her in and help her out , she thought it could be good for Hank to have a little one around. He was great with her and it livened him up to. After getting better and having 3 sets of shots she got parvo boy was that a mess the vet didn’t think she would pull through. “BUT SHE DID” I was so happy so I kept her. No more problems yet and she is doing great with her training. I am training her to be my service dog like I did with Rusty but I do have to remember she was from a BYB so their could be more to come. I pray their isn’t she is the love of my life!! I do understand and agree that byb isn’t good and it causes a lot of heart ache to people that get the pups. But I couldn’t see myself buying another dog I would love to but when their are so many that need help I can't stop myself!!! So it becomes a vicious circle for me but I am happy knowing that the time they had with me was great and they were part of our family!!!

I'm confused...these dogs are rescues, or you bought them from a BYB?
It's one thing to adopt a backyard bred dog from a shelter or rescue it is entirely another matter to buy (or even take them) from the backyard breeder. |

Oh no they were all rescues!!
I have a freind that helps shelters and the people in the comunity know her around here and when they get in trouble they call her to clean up their mess, Some are very sad so when she needs fostering I help. But then I end up falling in Love and can't let them go! If something happens to my Zoe I don't think I will rescue again. It's hurts to much and My family and I have had a lot of heart ache, I felt I was doing the rite thing but I can't do it anymore. But it just shows that byb isn't good and even though they were rescues they ended very sad!

I think you are confused at to what defines a BYB.....here is a stickie on backyard breeders http://www.bulldogbreeds.com/discuss...pic.php?t=3938
I'm no expert on BYBs but roughly a BYB is defined as a person who breeds their dogs, with out really being 'qualified'. Whether they breed their dogs w/ the neighbors dogs b/c they are "pretty" and think they would make "pretty" puppies, or whether they are 'breeders' who just breed b/c they want to make money, without the proper health and temperament testing, most of these people shouldn't be breeding their dogs. The dogs are not going to better the breed of dog, they are bred just to breed them. I'm sure someone else can give you a better definition of BYB other than what I have said.

And because the community knows about her if they have a female in heat that they don't fix and she gets pregnant they will call her to give her the pups. She then will give them what they need to get healthy and then she will give them to the pound. I know it sounds a little crazy but that is how she gets these dogs. People who don't take care of their own that end up pregnant and pups get parvo she will take them to the vet, then she will ask the pound for free vouters the get the Mom fixed and she then will tell them to fix their female and check back on them in a week. I got 2 of the Rotties from her, people had called her saying OH PLEASE HELP MY FEMALE GOT PREGNANT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO I HAVE PUPPIES AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CARE FOR THEM, I made the banner THANK You So Much!

The last two rotties I got were from BYB they wanted to breed their two pretty dogs and sell them for a cheaper price that a reputible breeder . In the end the ones they were left with and couldn't sell they called Nikki, she then made them fix the female and then she took the pups. The ones that needed help rite away went to the vet. EDIT: Once they got out of the vet I did foster. And because the pound was envolved with these giving out the free vouters for fixing the mother and knowing how many pups were rescued once they were healthy she was to return them to the shelter but I fell in love so I went to the pound to adopt them. I know it is a different kind of story and I didn't go out and but them they were rescued but they did come from BYB. Zoe was a rescue to but I am hoping she will be ok. I think my next dog will come from a well astablished breeder. Sorry for the editing I get embarresed about my spelling but with the strokes and seizures I can't help it!! Maybe I will write on word and then paste next time!!!
