the past 2 times i have cleaned sammies ears she has gotten "freaked out" she will scurry around the house head very low like she is afraid of something. it will last for a few hours. it very weird. i changed cleaning solutions so i dont know if its that. i was using doc golds but my wife cant remember which store she bought it from. ive been to literally all the stores in a 15 mi radius and couldnt find it. i'll have to order online. thnx. i should add she doesnt like getting her ears cleaned and has been unusually tough to clen them the last 2 times.

Usually a quick wipe should be all that is needed.
If there is debris in the ear, she could have mites or their infected. Reason for her hanging her head and not wanting you to touch them. |

I never clean the inside of my Dogs ears. They always look and seem normal, ie naturally clean enough. Since she has never had problems in her ear I would be wary of doing more harm than good.
I do rub the back of her ears though, as I heard this breaks down the wax and loosens it up so to prevent build up. I am not sure how effective this is but she seems to enjoy it anyway!! |

If she has a scratch inside - it could be burning her???
If her ears dont stink - I wouldnt squirt the stuff in her ears - I'd just wipe the outside with a flat cotton piece (the kind for removing makeup). And maybe just stick your finger down a bit & twist around. If you bathe her in your tub - do it after each bath while she's still in the tub - but also make sure you dry her ears too.

Sounds like she doesn't like having her ears cleaned.
Is she shaking her head after you clean her ears to get the excess liquid out? If she's not, it could feel really weird to her until it dries up. Also, are you cleaning both ears? I have noticed that some people will only clean out the dirty or smelly ear and not the other and that leaves the dogs feeling oddly unbalanced and they will act a little strange because of it. |

she does shake her head afterwards. i would prefer to just wipe them down but i thought it was a given that the squirt had to be done. i do go in and twist my finger around with a wash cloth after to dry and get anything left behind. she loves that. i do clean both at the same time. i guess if its not necessary i'll just do the wipe method. although a few weeks ago she was shaking her head alot and after i cleaned them it was better. so i guess she needed it that time anyway. thanks for all your input.

If you aren't getting gunk I would stop doing it, you don't want to create a behavioral issue or an issue with her ears getting dried out because most ear cleaners contain alcohol.. I guess I am saying if someone was pouring stuff in my ears I would run too.
