Interesting post. On the contrary, last night I was coming back from Jersey back home, and spent an hour in traffic on the Goethals bridge - the MTA Police was conducting a DWI checkpoint to make everyone safe (I am pretty sure my glass of wine that I'd had a few hours before had evaporated in the hour I spent in traffic). Long story short, the officer orders me to pull over and present my driver's license, Uma went on all out bark mode, not charging but standing still and barking at the officer - APBT's are not protection dogs, but do have a great deal of loyalty to their master, had she sensed that the police officer wanted to "harm" me? There are times when people approach us on the street when we are in the car, and she's friendly wagging her back end.
On our walks with Uma she is extremely friendly with people we meet, but she went into the full on bark mode on a homeless person sleeping on the streets - I didn't even see him.

A woman I work with told me that about 20 years ago she had a dog that one day stuck her nose on her chest. At first she thought she spilled food on herself but noticed there was nothing and the dog did this almost every day for a few months. It wasnt until she went in for a routine exam that they found something that turned out to be breast cancer. The same breast her dog was insistent on sniffing.

And speaking of strange....another coworker went to discipline his son - son refused to bathe - so he proceeded to drag him into the shower - well, the family cat bit the back of his calves as he was dragging his kid to the bathroom!

More likely she sensed you were nervous. My dogs are friendly and will lick faces of strangers when we go to the vet. But one time when I was approached by some strange man in the woods, they were barking and lunging at him. Only difference between the two situations was that in the latter, I was frightened.

When my dad was going through chemo, his hands and feet were dark and scaly. But I didn't really notice a smell so much. During that time though, Xena was extremely gentle with him when usually she goes bat-sh*t crazy around him cause that's her playbuddy. She knew something was up.

@Luvabull, I wasn't even in the room yet when she met him. I was trying to drag myself up the stairs (I was a little on the ill side myself then). So she wasn't sensing anything from me. I wasn't frightened, just annoyed with the steps at that moment.

They have service dogs that detect all kinds of stuff these days. Seizures, cancer, glucose levels, panic attacks etc. I think it's REALLY cool

I was playing Xbox a couple weeks ago and Sasha started barking at my xbox. I thought maybe it was just being loud and it bothered her or something. The next day I got the RRoD. Crazy

I totally agree. I haven't noticed it with minor cancers but with the animals that are headed downhill you can definitely smell it.
I never noticed it with my Dad when he had cancer either. I wonder if I would now tho?
