If I were in this situation, I would go over to the neighbor and have a heart to
heart about scheduling outside times for your dogs. If the two of you work together on this there should not be anymore incidences. Training should help but you still will always have to be on your guard. |

I rescued a DA pitbull many years ago she was people aggressive to. But I had time then to work with her. Everywhere we went she had a basket muzzle on, while it was on I would work on her tolerating other people and animals that was the first step. After about one year of constant training she could be around other dogs and people without the muzzle. It is possible to help her. You just have to be willing to do the training.
I wouldn't put her down!

thats not your fault... if it goes to court it should rule in your favor because the other dog was out of control and off its leash .. the neighbor should have made sure you were inside already or leashed they're dog... IMO, its their fault

i would recommend some intensive training/ obediance classes. not just some stuff on your own but take her to a professional that specialize in aggression. they are usually cheap aroun 200 bucks for a number of classes. get her the structure that she need and then keep her in them, my EB will be in classes till he dies, not cause he is aggressive but because dog feel safer and happier when they know they are not the ones giving orders. it sounds wierd but being a follower is much nicer than being a leader and when you lift the responsibility off her she will thrive. just think about it

Help me understand why that would make a difference...sounds like property of the community, but she had a leash on, and the other lady kept opening the door with no leash on the dog.

a gated communty courtyard may have a level of "secured area" to it that could give rise to a belife that once inside that secured area the local city laws no longer apply. think of it as your front yard, you dont have to have a leash on when in your own front yard if it secured, thus if the courtyard of the condo is secured then it is legally treated as every residents "front yard" and only homeowners assossiations rules would govern it

This is a complex type area, I would assume (and it could be incorrectly) it's much like yours and my front yards...which I know I do not have a "secure" front yard, so my dog is on a leash at all times. If it were the other way around, and in a "secure" area, I would hope that people were still smart enough to have their dogs on a leash (ha, my neighbor next door doesn't...he's fixin' to be another pit bull statistic). I think the good thing is, this neighbor sounds like they are level headed.

In Seattle many of the apartment and condo complexes have a secured gate you enter that opens into a large courtyard and then a couple doors of the courtyard thet lead to everyones individual unit. what i am saying is that if this was the set up i could roughly see why the other owner would think her do would be fin off leash, that being said, i still think they would be wrong and that Oeneus was the responsible one by haveing his on leash.

Some of the townhome units have that here. Someone would be nuts to think they are "safe", but that seems to be the mindset of the majority of little dog owners.
