For those of you that are new to the forum, this is Keya. He lives at my store during the week and spends the weekends with me at home. He is the store mascot/pet, many people visit my store just to see him. He loves to tease the visiting dogs and loves to show off for kids by hanging upside down while he swings and screams. When dogs come into the store he will say "hello puppy, are you a good boy, sit, stay, come, bark and wine". When customers come in he says "hello" and when the drivers knock at the back door he says "come in". When the phone rings he will answer with his own conversation like "hello, how are you? Really, Oh Ok then thank you, goodbye" then he will make the sound of the phone clicking or the answering machine. He is very bonded to me so if Zeus or Ares come near me he will say "hey go!! go!!" then snap at them if they don't listen. We are still working on it but when I ask him what kitty cats do he says "meow meow" then I ask him what doggies do and he say's "woof, woof'. He loves to pull my hair then he yells ouch and then laughs. He freaks Kim and I out at times, he likes to talk while his head is in his bowl because he likes the echo. Last Friday he was doing it and we looked over and he wasn't even near his bowl, he managed to mimic the sound. My squeaky toys are by the front door and he will mimic them as customers are squeezing them . OK I will stop typing now, he says/does much more. Here is a video of him:

Too funny. He loves the phrase "peek a boo". You sure want to make
sure what you say in his presence - he copies it all. |

Keya is sure a talker. My boss had an African Grey through two marriages. I knew both wives and when the phone would ring the bird would start in and sound just like his first wife. The 2nd wife hated the bird and I always wondered if that was why.

Many people ask me about having a Parrot for a pet. They are great fun but at the same time they are very demanding for attention, poop allot and can be very noisy. Keya can be affectionate at times, loves his head rubbed and giving kisses but he can also be moody at times and this involves biting. If people are eating around him he will start by saying "yummy, yummy, uum, uum" but if know one shares with him he will squawk so loud it hurts your ears (it seems to be getting better with time outs). He also came to me in pretty bad shape, most of his feathers were plucked out. He grew almost everything back but then he got upset when I went out for diner and left him alone, he plucked all of his chest feathers out again.
