I think a week would be enough..almost everybody gets on everyday or couple of days..

how long did they do it before...who cares your the boss of this thread

How about this: the 5th through the 15th of the month is when people can submit a pic, than the 16th through the 30th is when they can vote. So that gives you til the 5th of the next month to post the results and get the next month ready.

Or instead of calendar dates, if you would rather work it by calendar days than you can do like sundays to sundays or whichever day works better for you.

Just an idea.
