Default Luxating Patella

Don't post here often but just got back from the vet, looks like Jackson's going to eventually have to have surgery. His leg started bothering him last week after chasing a ball he just came up lame. Limping was off and on all week so we took him in this morning. Doc says his knee socket probably formed too shallow so his kneecap slips out of place. He's not even a year so it will most likely only get worse. Poor guy...

been there and are there now!!
Orson had to have his first knee done at 8 months old, his other knee was done at 2.5 years old.
Lolita is recovering now from having her surgery 4 weeks ago.

it sucks BIG TIME!!! Orson now has arthritis in both knees and sometimes after a hard exercise will still limp.

this is what happens when breeders dont health test their dogs. It's sad.

make sure to start with a glucosimine/chondroitin/msm supplement. About 1500 of glucosimine (plus the chondroitin/msm) a day for the rest of the dogs life. It will help.

oh and the earlier you can catch the problem AND have it corrected, the better the chance arthritis wont set in. If you know surgery will be needed, do it now!

just had the surgery done today. he is doing pretty well so far, but seeing him in pain makes me way more miserable than looking at the vet bill (which makes me pretty freaking miserable)... one knee down, one more to go a little later on.

Lo is coming up to her 6th week after surgery. She is still NOT using her leg, which worries me b/c Orson was using his at this point in the recovery.
Vet said it's best if they wait to use their leg as long as possible. I think she is just afraid to use it b/c she's afraid it might hurt.

go get LOTS of bully sticks and a kong (freeze peanut butter in it) b/c these dogs get way bored having to be confined 24 hrs a day.
