Default My OEB puppy....

Hey guys! My OEB pup just turned 5 months old and he's weighing 40 pounds. He's been sick a few times and he's actually sick right now due to tonsillitis. Anyways, I'm feeding him royal canin large breed puppy food and he never really seems to excited to eat it. He used to eat beneful for puppies and he loved it until I learned that it wasent good for him. He was on that beneful diet for about 3 months. Since then ...royal canin. Well, I get worried cause I feed him about 2 in a half cups a day and he won't ever finish it all... Like he doesebt have this big hunger drive. I've taken him to the vet and he's been perfctly healthy. I'm just worried he won't grow as he is supposed to. I also give him petco vitamins for pups...since he doesn't eat a whole lot. His dad was a big, at least 80 pounds and his mom about 65. Well, let me know if u guys got any advice

An another thing...he prefers to eat a treat than to eat his food. It's annoying!!! He's so picky and stubborn when it comes to eating!! Help lol!

I thought he we underweight. Seeing this past week he hasent been eating more than 2 cups a day when his food guidlines say 3 cups a day :/ When i get home I will upload some pics of my OEB.

Btw, at 5 months shouldent he be about 50 pounds or more? I know he is finnaly starting to get testies so i know the muscle mass will come soon. Anyways....anyone know how to make them eat? im not going to spend money again for him to like his food, i sopent 55 bux on Royal Canin and he needs to learn to eat it! What should i do?

its wierd, he even doesent eat some can food, my sisters English bulldog tears ANYTHING up!

Restrict his eating, tighten up his eating habits and he won't be as picky.

What do you mean Banter? Example, before i go to work at 8am i feed him or at least he trys to eat it, and at 7 pm i feed him again. But he never really eats everything. In total both scoops i give him make up about 2 1/2 cups in an entire day.

but if i brake a treat over his food he eats the treat.

Regardless, he has tonsillitis right now so hes barely eating due to the sickness which is why im REALLY worried, he is obviously a picky eater..and on top of that hes sick which makes his eating habits worse hes taking medication obviously for his sickness, but it takes a bit for him to get better....

Like i said, even when i made a strict eating schedule, he wouldent realyl follow it meaning he will skip his meal, and only end up eating about 1 cup in a half to 2 cups at max. And i know as a puppy these guys need to be eating ALOT.

Hes an inside dog by the way.

Dogs are only picky eaters because we as owners let them be. Stop giving him treats period. Until he gets to a point where he eats what he should. When you feed him if he walks away from the bowl take it up and put it away do not feed him again until his next scheduled feeding. While he is sick you may want to give him a little wiggle room there. The dog will not starve himself though trust me. He will learn to eat on your terms and you won't have this problem. As far his weight and age all dogs are different and I would think him being sick would keep him form weighing as much as a 100% healthy dog.

Thanks for your advise, this past week ive left food with him inside the crate since he is sick....that a good idea? I know the vet told me to give him plenty of water till he is healthy so i leave water in the crate too. When ig et back from work there is still food in the crate believe it or not. So for those 9 hours hes in the crate, he doesent even finish a little over a cup of food. Again, im feeding him Royal Canin Large breed puppy food.

Also, is it possible he can be depressed due to the fact that hes in a crate 9 hours a day 5 days a week> (i work) I dont have another dog at home so he can play with, so maybe he isent as into eating as he should be. Regardles, me and my wife give him LTOs of attention when we are home and at nite we have him sleeping on the carpet. We are slowly getting him away from the crate, but if he pees, he goes back at nite lol.
