I have a 1 yr old male english bulldog that has been having alot of trouble with "hot spots" or rashes on his belly. I have had him to the vet twice in which both times they put him on antibiodics and steroids. Great solution temporarily (for the length of time he was on the meds for a few wks after). I have tried many at home remedies such as domeboro solution, caldesence powder, baths 1x/week, changing to hypoallergenic food (currently mixed with old brand), changing detergent etc. Any other advice or better solutions.

I hope they grow out of it! My boy, is 8 months old and has periodically had belly rashes too. Most recently he had a flare up (we are in the middle of Spring here) and we went about trying to eliminate all the wandering dew out of the garden beds (which he is his favourite place to poo) which has helped dramatically.
I tried the corticone/antiseptic/antibiotic cream and found it to be ineffective and was on the verge of taking him to the Vet (even though I knew all he would give us is cortisone or an antibiotic, but my poor little boy was itching soooo much!) Until I thought i'd try one more thing first, chinese herbs. We regularly see a chinese herbalist and asked for his opinion. The tea tree ointment gave him some relief until the herbs kicked in, I'd say within 2 days Wendell was well on his way to a clear tummy and another 2 days and he was as goos as he's ever been! Now, since we stopped the herbs he has started a little redness again, so back onto the herbs, but we have had some very warm weather and I think he has found some more wandering dew (miniture type). Even if he has to have these herbs on and off for his life, I'd much prefer he be on them then cortisone. |

+1 to what jinxxy said, and why would a skin condition be a trade mark for bulldogs? Sometimes I wonder if people think before they type.

My american bulldog has problems between his toes. Red and inflamed sometimes turn into blood blisters and burst. They are sore and sometimes makes it hard for him to walk. Vets are super unhelpful, they have no idea anymore. that one guy is kinda right though, it is a signature thing for bulldogs to have very bad skin problems.

I may be wrong ( and please someone correct me if I am ) but from what I understand both of these things ( hot spots on the belly and also the red irritated paws) are secondary to allergies?
We have battled with Dukes allergies for over 10 months... went through the food trials. was on and off the steriods. Finally we took him to a dermatologist and found out Duke is allergic to wool. ( we had him skin tested and blood tested) Ironically we had several wool blankets around the house.. One was in his bed.. We removed the wool and although we are trying allergy shots.. he has improved 80 % ... Duke went through horrible hot spots on his neck and also the red paws? since we have the allergy under control he has not had any of these issues. Again I could be wrong but seems to me you need to find out the culprit of what is causing these things? Just a suggestion. If I had to do it all over again I would have had Duke tested from the get go.. that is just my opinion.

Our 7 month AB has problems with rashes on her belly and also under her arms. We have tried lots of lotions and potions most of which have had no effect. The vet also gave us steroids but they didn't seem to do much. we feed her on the BARF diet as the vet recommended. It still hasn't helped so we have ordered some Nzymes and are hoping that will cure it. does anyone have any comments about the Nzymes e.g. are they a good idea?
