Default Mac vs Pc

Im planning on buying my other half a computer for Christmas.

I dont know much about computers, maybe some of you that are more educated on them than I could give some advice? We've had a few pc's and Im wondering if I should try a Mac.

He uses it for:
Forums, youtube, research for work, a few games

We'd like to be able to download movies and burn them to dvd's.

School me please

I really prefer PC's over Mac's mainly because of price difference but that is just me.

Thats the reason I was going to buy a pc. Then I thought over the past 4 years with all the $ Ive spent fixing my PC I could have bought a Mac so in the end maybe it would be the same?

I always by the extended warranty and boy I'm glad I buy them LOL but I've never liked the way Mac's were set up either. If I could recommend a PC it would definitely be a Dell. I have a Gateway right now because it was a graduation present and I absolutely HATE it. I've had issues after issues with. Brian has a Dell and he loves it... his only complaint is that it doesn't have enough memory but that's because he's trying to run a bunch of drafting programs.

It really boils down to a personal preference. Yes, the Macs are better for some things(ie, photo editing, which is why I should really own one) but I've owned a PC all my life. So, I don't even glance at the Macs when I'm shopping for a new one.

I recently upgrade my laptop and got Windows 7. I really like the new OS, and think it's a change for the better.

Go to Best Buy and talk to a few of the people and explain to them what you need it for. They will be able to tell you what you need, don't need, etc.

Never had a problem with this new computer (1 1/2 years) but, I bought it from a man here in town that builds them himself. It is a PC, I run XP. I have used a Mac at a clients house don't know much about them. I know people that have had problems with Vista but there is a the new operating system Windows 7 that maybe better.

I would have always said go with a pc ...... except I was told mac's dont get viruses

I know he'll be happy with whatever he gets....anything will work better than what we have now... I just dont want to put more $ into it in a year.

I work for a large newspaper. We have a mix of both. The Macs are great for the graphic art and design side of the operation but PCs are used for all the business side and networking. I prefer PC as I use it for the very things your husband will use it for.
