Default eating paper and dolls ect..

I am wondering if anyone can help me. My Old English bulldog eats paper, toilet paper off the roll... dolls and stuffed animals... he seeks everything out and eats or tears it up to bits. How do I stop him from doing this??? we keep doors closed, took the toilet paper off the roll to hide it. but he sneeks and finds to eat or tear up.
open to all suggestions. thanks, Leah

If he won't behave unsupervised keep him tethered to you or leashed or put him in the crate if you can't watch him. You can't correct for bad behavior after it happens.

We usually see him in action. And tell him NO! take it away. How else should we correct him? will he catch on?

How old is he? I'm going to guess that he's bored and needs more stimulation, be it through training or exercise.

Thats what I was thinking. If I dont walk Omi for a few days - she starts to get into trouble. Hyper in the house, nibbling on my tv pillow ....

He is 3 years old. He is home with me all day... mostly sleeps. I walk him about 6:30 am then about 1pm and again at 8pm. about 20 min each time. When the kids get home he starts looking for something to destroy. It seem to me to be a habit that just started. He needs more chew toys that he can't destroy. He has a box of toys plays with just a few of them.

You lost me, then. What about a mentally stimulating chew toy...like a marrow bone or a peanut butter Kong. Something he has to actually engage in and think about?

seems like the kids getting home just gets him hyper and then he has no way to let off his steam so he destroys.
Kids when they come home from school are just a bundle of energy, he senses this and his energy level rises.

maybe the kids need to play fetch with him or do some obedience work with him when they get home.

you can try putting him in his crate about 45 minutes before the kids get home, and explain to the kids that you are trying to work on this behavior, and to ignore him when they come home.
when the house calms down again, bring him out, ON A LEASH, maybe go for a walk then. when you come back inside, i would still keep him tethered to you, or in a crate to help him learn that it is a time to chill, not to be hyper.

still though, hes a dog, he can't be opening doors. so if you shut off rooms, how exactly is he sneaking in there, unless someone in your house isn't making sure to keep them shut.

either way, most, if not all of this behavior can be eliminated by you crating when you cannot DIRECTLY supervise him, and/or tethering him to you. if hes attached to your body, he cannot possibly sneak off to chew up things.

yeah what moose said. Quiet time when the kids come home. Sounds like he is looking for attention. My dog does this when visitors come over. Steals tissues stuffed things tears them up. If there is a nyla bone near by he will re direct his hyperness to chewing the bone.
