Default Am I introducing a new dog the right way?

OK, quick story...my girlfriend (Jill) her brother (mike) lives in Washington, DC We live in NY, this past weekend her Brother was moving apartments and he could no longer keep his Lab/pit mix Juno.... Juno is 2 years old adopted at 6 months, she lived with a dominate female doxin, another dog Marley a shepherd mix also (not sure on his personality), Juno is crate trained and lovee her crate.... so Mike tells us Juno loves other dogs but "is better off the leash." she is not dominate he says... The house Juno is moiving to is Jills and Jill has a Westy (missy) who is dominate BUT gets used to dogs and couldnt care less about them.... so we take Juno up to NY only after meeting her for 12 hours and drive her 5 hours.... once we arrive at Jills house Jill went into her house to Greet missy and bring her outside on the leash to meet Juno, they met Juno and missy did the little mexican stare down and Juno barked at missy.... so we pull them away I say lets walk them a little then we let them sniff again Juno barked again... so out thinking was Juno musta been super stressed so we set up her crate in Mikes old room coverd three sides but the door closed the door to the room and put Juno to bed and played with missy...

Sp tpday Jills mother who didnt listen to Jill and I decided to bring them both outside together and she said Missy was Basically flexing her muscles to show juno whos boss by barking at her, but this only last for 10 min.... Juno was crated all day and missy had her normal roam of the house, the room juno is in is closed all the time so missy never goes in there anyway...

So today I was reading some info online about walking new dogs together...so we fed missy and got her ready for a walk, i put the leash on Juno and walk her outside, I told Jill to make sure she walks infront of me so missy could be in the lead...the walk went very well...no signs of aggression on either dog, they both went to the bathroom, Missy went 1st then Juno went on the exact spot where missy went, they walked next to each other sniffed each other if missy found a good scent Juno was right next to her smelling the same spot....after the walk we wanted to let them meet off the leash again so we took them in Jills back yard, in the backyard as soon as we walked Juno kinda nudged Missy but missy Flexed her muscles once again and Juno stopped, this was before we took the leash off then i took the leash off and Juno went on her Merry way playing, i made sure there was no toys.... They came together a few times to sniff and missy showed her muscles again and the last time it seemed like Juno really got the point and really backed off in an OK, OK you win kinda way.... We let missy in the house 1st then I take Juno into her room and then fed Juno in her room to keep them seperate.....Juno then gets crated for a few hours then we decide to walk tthem again, this time missy led Juno out of the house they walked together and Missy peed 1st and Juno once again went in the same spot... after a little bit Juno started to play bow with missy but missy wanted nothing to do with her...so we went back home Crated Juno and Missy and Jill went to bed....Sorry for the long story but i want to make sure i am doing this right...this was not expected so any help would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!

Others can give you better advice - but I would suggest keeping them separate/leashed at all times. It might take Juno a month or two before she relaxes and comes into her own. Things may be fine now but in a month or two when Juno starts feeling more relaxed - things can change and quickly.

I think the two week shut down would be good for her as well.

I think you're doing ok. Like was said do not have them together off leash at all not even in the house on the way to out for a walk. And especially not in the backyard. Also make sure that everyone in the house knows and agrees to this. I really don't want to see a thread in couple weeks that someone else let the dogs out now one or both are injured or worse.

My brother has 3 pits he had one for about 2 years then got another puppy those 2 had a liter and he kept one of the puppies (they are all sputered now don't worry) His dogs ahve basically known each other thier whole lives and he's had to break up fights. He's more cautious with them now but he had to learn the hard way, luckily there were no serious injuries but hter could have been. Your dogs have known each other what a few days now? Don't take any chances

an update on progress: We keep Juno in her room with a baby gate and missy is starting to get used to her, one encouraging thing is on walks they sniff the same spots face to face and could care less about each other, i tried them in the house and when they cross paths it gets a little tense...

I broough Juno to come ovber and play with my AB Benny, that wasnt good at all kept them on the leash benny was all happy but juno kept barking at him and getting a little tiffy...

after this we called Mike, and his story completly changed about her, she was now only allowed to control sniff dogs for a second, she never was allowed to socialize with other dogs outside of the dogs she lived...and even then it was controled....

so being lied to Jill and her parents took in a dog, that is not socialized at all! but is an amazing companion to humans... now we are like WTF do we do now...it really pisses me off Jills own brother would lie about his dog so we could watch her until he moved back to NY in 6 months...We said to him you Lied to us and that could have seriously injured a dog or even us and the stories keep changing...
