Well, I've had Harley almost 5 months to the day. When I first got her, I'd bring her to Petco with me, and it was so embarrasing at the check-out  Harley'd be pulling me so hard, I could barely get my money out to pay. Went for a visit last week, and I calmly stated "wait'. The little angel planted her rump & didn't budge until I gave her the OK. On Sunday morning there was a fishing derby down the road my husband was taking our daughter to. So, I click on Harley's leash, and walked down with them. As soon as we get there, I'm being blasted by icy looks. It's pretty obvious Harley and I are NOT WELCOME! I went and sat in the sand with Harley by ourselves. Sure enough, 5 minutes goes by, and a little girl walks up, "can I pet your dog?" . "Sure", I tell her. I put Harley in a nice sit, and the kids start coming. Suddenly no-one is interested in fishing, per se. The smaller the child, the more submissive Harley became, until a little boy, probably 10 or 11 months toddles over with his father. Harley immediately flops on her back, and waits for a tummy rub. Wonderful dog didn't even try to steal kisses. Her behavior was perfect! I love seeing people's attitudes change from "what is that crazy lady thinking bringing a PitBull here?" To "Wow, what a nice dog". It's such a good feeling.

Way to go Harley!! I especially love how she rolled over on her back when the little one approached...excellent! Makes all of your hard work seem worth it, doesn't it?

Keep up the great work...it's obviously working!!!

Congrats to you and Harley =D> \:D/ see if you have made that much progress maybe Harley would do well as a "therapy dog" being able to cheer up elders in the nursing homes... I was watching Miami Animal Police last evening and thy had 3 rescued pits and 1 went ahead to become a therapy dog...helps to banish the stereo types... we have something like that through our local shelter except they take baby goats... LOL

I have wanted to get Harley into therapy work for awhile. She has the perfect temperment for it :D The CGC and therapy "tests" are both 2 hours away, and they have them smack dab in the middle of the week at like 8pm. I read the guidelines for CGC and the only part that worries me is having another dog walk past & Harley showing no interest. So against her nature. That'll be tough to overcome. But yes, I was so happy with her, and happy for her. She doesn't understand why some people aren't nice to her, so it's great to share these experiences. I brought her to another fishing derby about 3 weeks ago in CT. There was a male 8 month old Pit/ Chihuaha sp? mix she was playing with. That dog, who weighed less than my cat, honestly believed he was KICKING HER BUTT! It was so funny, b/c Harley loved every minute of it. There she is, on her back, feet in the air, with an 8 lb. dog attached to her face. Hilarious.
