Ha, It seems like I am the "Problem Mother" on the board this week. But you guys all have such good tips, here is another pup dilema. Sorry for the length.
I dont expect our 3 month old pup to be completely housebroken already (we have had him for three weeks), but I feel that NO Progress is being made.
When we got him he had a pretty bad UTI so for the first week housebreaking was pretty difficult, keeping up with him dribbling in the house every 5 min was just impossible (bringing him outside every 5 min) and we gave him a little lienancy about accidents. But now that that is all cleared up I am afraid that week of peeing in the house has set us waaay back in housebreaking.
We are very consistent, he is crated during the day when we are not there and night, he is brought out as soon as he wakes up, after eating, and every hour or so if he is sniffing around or had a long play session. he is always watched like a hawk and if he squats we clap/make noise and take him out to finish and clean up any accidents with a good pet smell killer cleaner. He holds it for 5-6 hours at night in the crate no problem so I know he CAN hold it. But when he is out playing during the day or in the evening he seems to not be making any progress.
For example I will take him out to his area and he will go, we will go back inside to play and 5-10 min later he will squat right in front of me and dribble (not much since he JUST went) on the carpet. Or I will notice him sniffing so I will call him to go out, he will follow me downstairs and squat right in front of the door before we can go outside. We carry him out early in the morning when he first wakes up (since I know his bladder is full) so he makes it outside but in a week or so I wont be able to carry him down two flights of stairs (he sleeps in our room).
I have housebroken dogs before and at this point (a few weeks in) they are atleast making progress. I just want to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
