Anyone ever have the nostrils opened wide on there EB? Duke is going in to get neutered and the vet has always recommended that if he ever gets anything done that it would really benifit him to open the nostrils more. He says that his nostrils are tight and dont allow for very much air flow. Any comments? If you have done this how did it work out?

I wouldn't even bother with second opinions on this surgery, just do it. Stenotic nares are a common problem for all brachycephalic dogs, and the surgery is just as routine as a spay or neuter. You wouldn't get a second opinion for speuter would you? You'll save yourself a bundle of money by doing it while he's already under anesthesia, not paying for a second anesthetic, and you will be in awe of the difference in his breathing. There's no downside here, go for it!

Interesting I have never heard of this, sounds like it must be common with EB's. I would be interested to hear about the procedure.

My vet wants $200 on top of the price of the neuter. I wasnt sure if that was high or not but the vet is very good with duke and has known him since a pup.
Glad everything turned out great. Sorry about the bad advise, I hadn't heard of that condition before. That's why I'm on this forum, I'm learning new things every day :D
