I posted a thread a couple months back letting all you guys know that I commissioned a custom guitar to be made for me...dedicated to my little guy. It's been 1.5 years since I ordered, but now it's finally here. After dozens of emails with my guitar luthier and finding the perfect picture of Driver to base the inlay on, everything has worked out and now I'm able to enjoy playing the Doo!!!
God, I sure do love that mug of his.
This is the photo the inlay artist based her design on. I think it's spot on!
In keeping with the canine theme I decided to have three words, that best describe EBs, inlayed on the 12-14 frets on the fingerboard.
Here's a shot of the entire guitar
Another pic of the back
Pic of the side soundport...or shall I call it pawport?
I received the guitar last Friday and I've been playing it non-stop whenever I'm home. As I opened the guitar case for the first time (with Driver laying down beside me) I'll never forget that moment...my first good look at the headstock and then looking back at Driver, all four limbs spread out, and looking at me as if he's trying to say "Why are you getting all choked up over a box of wood?" I never thought something so simple, like an instrument, could affect me so emotionally. It just reminded me how these simple things can bring so much joy and inspiration. My friends think I'm crazy for having ordered a custom guitar, the cost of brand new Hyundai, and maybe they're right. All I know is I now have a memento of my little guy who's extremely loyal and has an unconditional love for me and I for him.. Hope you guys enjoy!!
