Well this past Sunday, we figured it was time to get him beach broken for real. Being that he is now 9 months old, we couldn't have an island doggy on our hands that didn't know how to swim.

So it was off to Bellows beach again to get him trained proper.....As usual, he had to burn some of his zoomies off as soon as we arrived on sand:

At first he was very reluctant to get into the waves, seeing as how the last time we went, he got drilled a couple of times in the shore break.

It took a little bit of coaxing, but he eventually decided to give it a shot...

I decided to help Shane-nah get him in there and it worked like a charm....

He was swimming like Phelps in no time, but the first decent sized surge came along and had him thinking twice.

That was short lived though, and he was soon back in the water mixing it up!

We had a really nice time and he spent the next couple hours going back and forth into the surf to use his new found talent. He got some killer exercise in and I think we're going to be doing this quite a bit with the summer heat coming on.

Gunner says thanks for looking y'all!

Wow, what stunning pics I feel like I could smell the surf from here!
Gunner is a beautiful animal, you must be proud. :D

God I wish I were your dog!!!
Went to Hawaii for my honeymoon and sooooooooooo did not want to come back.
Besides the gorgeous beaches I think the most fun I had was Mud Bugging (sorry, I forget the island...Kaui??)

forever_pit - LOL, yeah it does. He's a character. We have not gotten him involved in anything yet. The availability of good clubs and events around Hawaii leaves much to be desired. We will probably start him off in WP, though I had hoped to get into a good Schutzund program. With my time availability, and the lack of resources for Schutzhund here, we will probably want to fly someone down to train him.

D_Marie & tt557 - Mahalo! Hawaii can be a great place to live, but you gotta take advantage of times like this one. When you come down, make sure to hit the beaches up!

Terra - Thank you very much. Yes we love our boy, and I was a very proud father that he finally got to swim.

Managirl - Wassup girl! We went to Bellows beach again. Baby Maks had too much people....Infact so did bellows. We drove towards the Waimanalo side and parked right on the side of the road in order to find a stretch of sand we could let him loose on.

Those back ground pictures are nice  i m joking i m so jealous of where you live..

LOVE the pictures...i want more...i want to go swiming there to  ...

since i was young my dream was to go to Hawaii...i don t think i ll ever go

But i m glad to look at your pictures...

love th pic where he jumps on you in the waves

more more

Gunner is huge...

Looks like fun! Does he always come back to you when you call and he's off leash? I tired it once with Rose a couple years ago, to let her off leash at the beach and I had to chase her down. :( So now I'm way too scared to try it again. Looks like he likes the waves and you guys had a blast. :)

omg, those are some gorgeous pics! i can almost feel the breeze on my face and the sand between my toes. I miss the beach! :(
you are VERY lucky to have such beauty around you (that includes your dog
 )

All American - Thanks my friend.

Dodo - You gotta find a way to make it here somehow. I would recommend checking out the other islands though. Oahu is nice & busy, but it's getting to be just another city. Maui & Big Island are awesome getaways, but being that I like to hunt & fish, Molokai & Lanai do it for me. Plus there's nothing like the snail like pace of life combined with the natural beauty and friendly people.

Roses Mom - We got Gunner well trained and he will turn around mid stride if I yell at him to get back. The other day he figured out how to open our front door and get at passer-by dogs/people and as soon as he got out the door to charge some poor lady walking her pit bull, I screamed at him to get back in the house. He froze so fast the door slammed on him. Then reluctantly (but hastily) got himself back in the house along with a big guilty smile. Haha

Jun - Thanks bro. He does indeed!

Orsondogge - Glad you like the pics. The sand between your toes would be nice, but the breeze was sweltering. I wouldn't mind a little snow sometimes! Thanks for the kind post.

Nelsons Mummy - Yeah I like that one too! We'll be doing our best to make use of this hot Hawaii weather.
