Hi all,

im luke from leicestershire with the new addition to the family, dipsy,my american bulldog!

I recently rehomed an american bulldog bitch,5 months old, that was attacked by a sizeable adult male.(before i got her)
Since then she hasnt been keen on other dogs and im just wondering if anyone has any useful tips or information on how to solve this problem.
iv been trying shock aversion as it was recomended by a woman in the local kennels, and did start to work, but now seems to be used to it or just ignoring it.

if anyone can help it would be much appreciated as i really love her already and feel guilty about being limited on places i can take her where there are fewer dogs.

many thanks!!

First off, thanks for rescuing!
Hi, shocking a bulldog probably won't work, they are pretty immune to pain. Find a good trainer who uses lots of positive reinforcement and get started.
Others will chime in who know more than me!
Good luck!

Why are you shocking her? Have you used other methods of training before turning to a shock collar? Have you been taught proper methods of using a shock collar? I really don't think that you should be using a shock collar on a 5 month old dog. Try posting your questions in the Training thread. You'll most likely get more help or answers there.

it sounds like it was "recommended" in his original post. I'm guessing not knowing any better that's what they went with.

I'm not a fan of shock collars but since I have joined the forum I have kept an open mind. From my understanding it is all in the timing and if they aren't used correctly they will fail or can worsen the issue. As jackersmommy mentioned, I would seek a professional trainer that deals with this kind of issue.
