Bronson had his operation on Saturday and well its not great news....
The vets have pretty much ruined his life, If you were not aware of the situation here is a small summary:
When Bronson was 8 months old he was running on the beach and he pulled up and began limping, we took him to the vet nothing wrong (Clearly there was) so we took him to another vet (again nothing wrong) so we proceeded on pretty much visiting every vet in the city! until one vet said he knows there is a problem but he would prefer it we went to what is supposed to be the best vet in the country.
He asses him and said they could find no issue with him and that his limp was chronic and it was just a part of him.
They contacted me again 4 months later and said a vet from the UK was coming over to asses cases that they had no answer to so i jumped at the opportunity and within 15 minutes he told me he was 90% sure he knew what it was, i was overjoyed but annoyed at how quickly he managed to do this yet all the other vets found NOTHING, moving on, he took some more xrays and said it has got a little worse, he was only over for a couple of days but would be back 2 months later to operate on the cases that required it, Bronson being one of those.
So they operated yesterday and he found the problem to be much worse than he thought, when he pulled up he said that he jolted his elbow in some way shape or form that it put it a fraction out of position this cause the elbow to grind against the bone and cartilage, it has infact ground away all of his cartilage, he said his bones countered this and grew bigged to create stability in the joint, he confirmed that because this has been going on for several months it has caused bronson to have arthritis in his elbow, at present the vet said he is in between stage 1 and stage 2 out of 4 - but will get to stage 4 in 6 - 12 months!
He will no longer be able to run, and will not be able to climb stairs, he will be on anti inflams and joint tablets for the remainder of his life, and when his arthritis gets worse he will be on a stronger pain killer to ease the pain he said this happens naturally but to dogs that are old and on there last legs, so i rightfully understood his concern for Bronson as he is only 1 and half!
The Cypriot vet then had the cheek to say, we will give you a discount because we did not find the problem oh so many months ago that quite frankly could of saved Bronsons elbow.
I feel so so so bad for Bronson, But this is the predicament i am in now, all i can do is supplement him with his meds, and work within his capabilities, no doubt he will still have a great life, its just saddening that he is restricted at such a young age and all down to pathetic veterinary services.
I have mentioned this before - but please never ever come to this dump of a country. you will thank me later.
