Okay, I think I may have been deceived when told my pup was 5 weeks old and that he would be okay to take and bottle feed because he was not doing well with the mom. I have been fishing around on the site and see pictures of pups that are 4,6,8 weeks that are much, much bigger. Do I possably have a younger pup or could it be his is just that much smaller? I posted some pictures but if anyone can help by looking at pictures I could send more.
Thank You.

Where did you get this puppy and why was it so young when you obtained it?
The earliest weight I have on my boy is 6 weeks, he weighed 8.6lbs. My girl weighed 9.2 lbs at 6 weeks.

Your boy is really small, as long as he is healthy I wouldn't worry.

He sure is CUTE!!!!
stella was tank at 6 weeks herrs a pic a 8.5 allmost 9 weeks !

THIS WAS BACK IN OCTOBER /05 AND THIS IS NOW !~

have a vet have a look at him thats my best advice and go from there good luck let us know what you find out !

How I got the pup so young

My husband works with a man who had the litter. He nor his wife have ever bread dogs before the had 13 pups 4 of witch died. He aggreed to give us one for $100 bucks, he owed a favor to my husband. Anyways then a few of the pups started getting weak and that is when they aparently lost the 4. They then called us and let us know the one we wanted was getting weak. So i called a vet and asked if i could take a pup at 4 1/2 weeks. The did not seem to have a problem with that just made sure that I was aware I had to get puppy formula not baby formula (Duh!!). So I then took the pup to the vet, he had two kinds of parasites. The vet gave him the worm shot and sent us home with meds to continue. Today he went back to the vet. Worms are gone but still had a small amount of bacteria that needed to continue to be treated.
So our Arlo has been very weak probably on the verge of death, but with us taking him when we did and getting him the proper care he now has a chance. I just hope the others found good homes and where not left to die.

That puppy does not look like 5 wks of age, more like 3 weeks. HOWEVER, as it is just a picture & one cannot examine the dog & the dog's teeth, it's just a guess. Also, if the pup was truly 5 wks of age, then it would've been fine to just begin feeding good quality puppy food (maybe softened). At that age, bottle feeding isn't necessary.

Unfortunately people want to have puppies to make that all important dollar yet they don't want to have to deal with the actual care & upbringing of the puppies so they lie about their age in order to get rid of them. The less money they have to spend on the puppies, the more profit they get to keep.

One last thing, check your state laws on this issue. Many states have laws in place that make it illegal for someone to sell a puppy under the age of 8 wks (& sometimes 7 wks).

I am glad you are taking such good care of the puppy! And you took advise and took the puppy to the vet. There are many reasons to keep puupies with their mom and litter until they are at LEAST 8 weeks old. But sometimes it is necessary to take the puppy from it's litter and take care of it on it's own. This is a good case. Money is not a good reason!

I beleave he's small because the litter was sooo large (13pups) and there was parasites involved. Momma must not have given enough (vitamins, etc) while she was pregnant. As long as you continue to feed the pup puppy formula he will continue to grow well. He may remain smaller than the average bulldog though! But he sure a cutie! I qouldn't worry as long as he is healthy and he looks as if he's does fine. Keep the photos coming!!!!
Looks much younger than 5 weeks and bottle feeding him is a good idea. Glad you took him to the vet because the vet should guide you in the right direction. He is absolutly beautiful. Please keep us posted with his progress and of course pictures!
SAME HERE
