Buster has always been bad when we are eating or my kids are walking around with there snacks. He would walk right up to them and grab what ever it was in there hand so I started crating him while we eat or if it is snack time for my kids well at night when the kids are in bed my hubby always sits on the sofa with a bag of chips or some kind of other food and Buster is usually out playing but as soon as he see's the bag he will run and jump up which my hubby says no and and off and will make him sit but then he will get mad and start barking at my hubby then try and jump up again and grab what ever it is he is eating.Should I just continue to crate him when we eat or is there a way to work around this?

Buster is a great dog otherwise and he has learned to sit and give paw and we are currently working on down(lie down) which he is getting better at but the food thing needs to stop and I hate having to crate him every time someone has something in there hand but if it is what I need to do then I'll do it but any other advice would be great :D

Boss used to be really bad with that when he was little. Now, he is not allowed to stand up when someone is eating. I tell him to lie down and he must stay down. For the first while, I had to repeat it to him like 20 times  But I am consistent with this, every time he gets up, he is told to lie down. Every single time. Some people are ok with their dog just sitting while they eat. So, if buster only knows sit, you could make him sit-stay while you are eating. You might have to repeat it a billion times, but he'll learn.

I taught all mine to sit, but after the pups came, it got alittle aggrevating.........now I have 7 pairs of eyes straing at me and would almost rather give them the dang chips then eat them and watch the drool and such!

I crate them now, or eat up at the kitchen bar, where they cant see real well.

The puppies are harder, as they havent learned well enough yet, they kinda jump and try to stael, then Daizy jumps now, and falls on her head, so we just crate, so much easier.

Besides if you teach them to crate when you are getting ready to eat, maybe later on, you can leave him out and threaten with the crate, then he may leave you alone.

Good luck ,poor doggys, imagine if we couldnt talk!!!Only had big eyes to communicate with and barks!!Lol..............I growl and bark, but not until Im p'o'd enough!!
