A working dog is not a pet? Huh?

If I am not wrong, the "working dog folks " consider their dogs companions first , and working dogs second. Would they frequent a board like this if they didn't ?

Your right, I didn't quite understand that either. Everyone has "pets", the activities you choose to do with your pet is the only differences. I'm not sure when actually working, working breeds became such a bad thing??

It's not a bad thing. It is only when a person tries to compare one against the other that the fur flys.
Why compare - enjoy the dog you have and allow the next person to enjoy theirs.

I never sad it was a bad thing, it's simply the way this is projected... It's simple, just because a dog works doesn't mean it isn't a pet. I'm not comparing Pat. ;)
Protection training your dog? Schutzhund? Weight pulling? This is for you. Is your dog a 'pet'? This is not for you.

Jenn - I did not read your post as if you were saying it was a bad thing, I was reading your post that you did not know when "to others" it became a bad thing. I was just making a statement to support what you were saying. Sorry I was not clear and confused the issue.

That is because they are trying to get us "working people" to stay out of everyone elses business, I not a "working person" I am a pet owner who is doing schutzhund with her dog, thats all.

That description is F*CKED!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't take it so personally. Root was only trying to make a differentiation for the people who wanted a place to discuss working dogs. Meaning you won't find cute puppy pictures there, discussions about how Fifi peed on the carpet again, or Rover chasing the cats. It's a place to discuss the WORKING side, not the pet side. He's not saying they're not PETS first, he's just giving you a place to discuss the things you find interesting in PPT, Schutzhund, WP, etc... and when you have something to share about your pets, you can find the appropriate forum for that too. Something for everyone.

SMILE. It will make you feel good. :D
I doubt it will stay exactly like that. They probaly just typed something kinda fast and didn't really pay attention to the way it sounded, hey it happens.
I removed the latter bit from the description, since it was too much for some to handle. Is it OK now? Are there any i's that aren't dotted? Any t's needing to be crossed?

lol take it easy.
I think the confusion lies in the way we each define a "pet" dog, for instance Mr A the pet owner will certainly not define his "pet" dog the way owner B the working dog owner does, just the same way as owner A & B would not agree on training techniques.
I think some people are looking a little bit too deeply into this whole thing.
Working people still consider their dogs "pets" well i do anyways not to say i am the "master Trainer". But when my is sick i take them to the vet, i feed them, walk them, cuddle them, work them. To me this is a everyday life for a dog. I think anyone who Buys a working breed buys it for a pet, but should count on working it for what it was bred to do.

working folks consider their dogs tools... tools to do the work they choose as there hobby... They are honest about what they have and make no excuses for the dogs... If a dog isn't suited to do the job they are working in they get rid of it and start over... Working folks have a goal in mind and work hard at reaching it so they don't keep dogs that can't do the work...
