advice on "dodging" up pet insurance application?

Hi I know its not "ethical" and i'm wrong for even asking anyone to help me on this one but does anyone have any idea on how i can "dodge" up a pet insurance application?

Nelson has hip dysplasia (diagnosed last week) and it costs $4000 per hip to do a TPO and i really want to do this but its just too far out of our budget to possibly afford this. so i'm looking at a way to get insurance so we can do this surgery for him. we have been told his hips are not very bad but they're not good either and there are things we can do if we can't afford the surgery to prolong the life of his hips but everytime i see him i feel so sorry for him and i just want to have the surgery TPO done so he'll not have a worry for the rest of his life. i know its selfish of me to rip the pet insurance company off but i just really want to do everything possible for my nelly.

please no lectures on ethics ;), and if you have any ideas but don't want ppl to know i you're "dodgy" you can pm me :D

i'm thinking its a lost cause because we have already taken nelson to the vet and the vet has taken xrays and we have been to a specialist and he has also taken xrays. but i was thinking i could probably put a differnt vet on the application form and take him to a differnt specialist? would the pet insurance place check every vet that nelson has been to? and how would they have a record of every vet nelson has been to? maybe we can change his name? LOL no thats a bit extreme!

i'm such a stupid idiot why didn't i get pet insurance?!?!?

I'm thinking the only thing you could do is basically start all over with his diagnosis. Take him to a new vet, who will then refer you to a new specialist. (and then hope it's not the one he already saw!) I understand where you're coming from, though. That's rough. Best of luck.

pet ins

hi if you get pet insurrance once you have cover if the dog falls ill they dont pay out straight away  you have to pay the premium for a few months first before you can even make a claim and because the dog as already seen a vet you would have to change vets too, cause when you take out pet insurrance the dog must be 100% healthy so good luck with your dog shirley

Even if they go to another vet, won't his records still indicate a diagnosis of hip dysplasia? Maybe some vets don't require you to give them previous records from other vets. I'm not sure how that works.

Not only that if they research your records (hey it's an insurance company and they CAN) they'll find you lied on the application and you might have to pay back the money. I'd do it the honest way.
I can sympathize too because Copper, my doxie, just has been diagnosed with IVDD (disc disease) and may at some point need surgery. And I'm kicking myself because he's been a costly dog from the git - go and I didn't buy pet insurance for him either. I wish I had too. Surgery can be upwards of $4,000...

insurrance

hi personaly i wouldnt do what you are thinking but its up to you at the end of the day  and as for checking records they would have to find out which vet you took the dog too but at the end of the day if you were too do what you say you need to do then they wouldnt check any other vets cause you havnt told them hes visited a vet any way good luck with which ever choice you make

The insurance could be somewhat costly and you may have to sign a contract
you maybe better off just paying on a payment plain for the surgery...plus if anything else ever goes wrong like a car accident then it could cost you more in the long run bc you will have already defruaded the insurance company

I got health insurance for Chico about 5 months ago because he was starting to show signs that his hips were bothering him. I had never taken him to the vet for that so it didn't show up on his record when I got the coverage. I specifically asked this company if hip dysplasia was coverred by them and they assured me that it was. Well, I waited a couple of months and then took him to get x-rays a couple of weeks ago. Most of you already know the outcome of that one. Well anyways, when my vet sent the claim to the insurance company, they decided to send me a letter saying that they were going to deny coverage. Their reason was that hip dysplasia does not happen overnight and that he must have had symptoms several months ago when I got the policy. I told them that he has never been diagnosed with it and that they had assured me that it would be covered if he were to ever develop dysplasia. Well, to make a long story short, I got in a huge fight with the rep over the phone and then cancelled my policy. I've wasted $60 a month on insuranse that didn't hold up to their promises. Needless to say, I'm absolutely furious over the situation, and I would love to see you take advantage of them. But in reality, I doubt that would happen. Insurance companies are very slimey and they spend lots of money and time trying to figure out how to get out of paying for things. Sorry to anybody who works in the insurance business!!!! I'm just really bitter.

Thanks for the heads up. I was going to get insurance on Deuce b/c of his problems with his legs already, but maybe it isn't really worth it. Vet stuff is pretty cheap here, so I guess I can manage.
I think that it is a big rip off, too. Vet stuff here is not cheap but by the time you pay $60 x 12 you have payed 720 per year after 5 years you have payed about 4 grand, I think that is about the same as shots and maybe a small accident or two..I would rather put $$$ in my Vetr hand than an insurance company anyday....I work for a doctor and I have learned how bad they are, LOL, they make lawyers look like Mother Tersa

Good post. Pet insurance companies do have a knack for finding out the truth. Also, be aware that not every vet clinic deals with pet insurance companies. We do not & will never do it. It's mainly b/c we are such a high volume clinic that are prices are already as low as you can find & we don't charge stupid exam fees for visits that include vaccinations (well animals).

We have had VPI on Josie since they started offering it through work. We get a really good discount. We are going to add the new puppy as soon as we can agree on a name. We don't pick him up till the end of the month and his coverage will start at the beginning of July. It has been a god send for us. Just wish they paid the vet. We use Care Credit to pay the bills and then pay it off when the reimbursement comes in. Really satisfied at the moment.

Amber,
I would make sure you file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against that company. At least that will assist other people from deciding to give them a chance. If they don't want you to file it you can tell them they can pay for the surgery. Probably won't happen, but hey it doesn't hurt. You gave them a chance to do the right thing and they didn't.
All Insurance companies are slimy though. If you haven't already paid them the money in the past to cover your claim they will want to drop you or not pay your claim. Insurance agencies are at the same ladder rung as loan sharks, crackheads, gang members, and maybe even child molesters. They are POS in my opinion.

Thanks for the support! I completely agree with everything you said. I've had problems with my own health insurance not wanting to cover medication for me and I have one of the "best" insurance companies available. I will file a complaint, that is a great idea. I paid $60 a month for two dogs. I guesss I didn't really clarify that one. But still, I'm pissed!!!! :x
