the akc took pitbulls and bred them for conformation in 1935-1936.so 70 years breeding away from what the breed was developed for has created a different dog and differant breed...rs
thats your opinion.......they changed the name to a differant breed name and bred for a diff.purpose and 70 years has seperated them..the english springers still share the same breed name..i hate the fact that you can register amstaffs with ukc as a pit bull..tell me why you cant register a pit bull with akc if they are the same...let me hear the answer to that.....rsAllAmericanPUP said:they are not two different breeds
to be a different breed would mean one of them would have had to have had something mixed in to make it different, wich didnt happen.
the AKC registered pit bulls as Am Staffs to get away from the pit fighting history.
you cant call them two different breeds when you can take one dog and register it with the UKC as an APBT and the AKC as an AST.
they are the same breed just two different types.
Generally the AST is bred for show and looks and the APBT is bred for working
it's just like most other working breeds, you have the show variety and the working variety, same breed but they usually look slightly different.
take the English Springer Spaniel for instance

all american you better read this..the akc considers them a dif. breed.now prove your point here is my proff. http://www.bulldogbreeds.com/americanpitbullterrier.htmlAllAmericanPUP said:you can register a pit bull with the AKC, it just gets registered under the AST name. because the AKC wouldnt recognize them as pit bulls because they did not want to be associated with their fighting backgroundcrackerbull said:thats your opinion.......they changed the name to a differant breed name and bred for a diff.purpose and 70 years has seperated them..the english springers still share the same breed name..i hate the fact that you can register amstaffs with ukc as a pit bull..tell me why you cant register a pit bull with akc if they are the same...let me hear the answer to that.....rsAllAmericanPUP said:they are not two different breeds

many dogs are dual registered with the UKC and AKC
