they are not two different breeds

to be a different breed would mean one of them would have had to have had something mixed in to make it different, wich didnt happen.

the AKC registered pit bulls as Am Staffs to get away from the pit fighting history.

you cant call them two different breeds when you can take one dog and register it with the UKC as an APBT and the AKC as an AST.

they are the same breed just two different types.

So I guess Tyson is American Pitbull afterall 8)

I too consider them to be different types of the same breed. The AKC liked the APBT but didn't like the fighting past, so they changed the name to American Staffordshire terrier (staffordshire, england being where pit bulls originate from). So the breeders who agreed with this name chang went forward and registered their dogs as AKC Amstaff and UKC APBT. Now the thing about the AKC is that if the bloodline wasn't registered as AnStaffs since the creation of the breed, you cannot register them such. So you cannot take a pit bull and register them as AmStaffs unless the parents are registered amstaffs. The AKC on the other hand clearly believes them to be the same, therefore you can register an amstaff as an UKC pit. Petey from Our gang (lil rascals) was said to be one of the first dual registered pit bulls. To further confuse the issue, the AKC does it fact believe they are the same breed. If you visit the AKC.org site on the AmStaff history page, it does state that the American Staffordshire terrier is also known as the pit Bull terrier.

My dog is UKC registered, so he is true American Pitbull Terrier 8)
