Banana!!!

2323 Views 15 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  Cinder
Okay, so.. I know this sounds kind of weird..

But I want to teach my dog how to "sick'em"

Long story short, scary people around these parts and the reason I put banana is because I don't want to teach her the word "sick'em" I want to use an odd word like Banana or Fork. So when I say it she does my command.

Please don't hate me! *ducks and covers*

Brittle Banana!!! No! No! Not my yellow shoes!!!

Get profesional help...... before it's too late.
I understand your idea....however it's a bad idea. BAD BAD idea. You're asking for serious trouble if you plan on teaching your dog to sic 'em.
Very bad idea. This is one of the reasons why pit bulls are in so much trouble and why responsible owners all over the world are being punished through Breed Specific Legislation.

Is anyone else hoping this person is a troll??
A troll? Wow, name calling.

Professional help? Nice to meet you too.

I live in a place where thugs live next door and crack houses are across the street. That's why I would like to train my dog.

And thank you Kasco for being very nice about it.

If you guys haven't noticed, I'm 18, I don't know much, that's why I came here for ideas and help, not to be grouched out and to be told I'm a "troll" I just want to learn. If ya'll could be a little bit nicer, It would make me happier to know that there are actually NICE people out there who WANT to help out a kid in need who is OBVIOUSLY oblivious to the reality of pitbulls.

Where I live Pitbulls are house pets. Tallahassee don't treat pitbulls like fighting dogs or killers or use them for machines. They use'em for guard dogs/house animals.

It's not like Chicago, or Miami, or LA.

What I DO know is that Pitbulls have been slandered a lot through the world, and that they are great dogs,

Don't take your frustration out on me. Just try to KINDLY say "That might not be a good idea... you MIGHT need to reconciter it" instead of being all nasty. I think I'm going to leave because some of ya'll have just been too mean to me.

You really need to grow a thicker skin, especially if you're a pit bull owner! No one here is being mean. Do you know what a "troll" is when it refers to message boards? In the span of a few minutes, you've brought up two of the most hotly debated issues on this board....something someone who is interested in starting flame wars just for the sake of creating drama (i.e. a troll) would do.

Maybe you should re-locate if you're that scared of your neighborhood. If you teach your dog how to attack on command without the assistance of a professional trainer (i.e. "professional help"), you are doing a HUGE disservice to the American Pit Bull Terrier breed and those of us who are trying to fight BSL.
Unfotunately your dog has found you before you realized that pit bulls don't make good watchdogs. He will surely disappoint you in that regard. Pit bulls love people and make poor watchdogs because it.

You are getting flamed because, despite what you say, you are perpetuating the stereotype that pit bulls NEED to be feared. You will never get support for that type of behavior here, so :salute: CYA!

PS I live around thugs too. I have a pit bull for a pet and a gun for protection.
That's what I was trying to ask.

If anyone knew a good training place.

I guess I didn't word it correctly.

And I can't relocate. I wish I could, but I can't. It's the matter of money that everyone loves to hear about.

And like I said, I don't know a lot, and getting scolded several times in one day kinda gets your defensives up.
Apbt's are NOT guard dogs! If you were ever in any kind of danger believe me your dog will do his damn hardest to protect you! You don't need to train him how to. Don't use your age b/c I'm 19. Never would I have thought to train my Apbt something like that. If you needed a guard dog maybe you should have gotten a Rottie or a German Shepherd. German Shephers are excellent guard dogs. Believe me I have one and she's on to every little noise and is constantly checking things out. I never have to worry. You should try to do as much research as you possibly can on Apbt's.

***Everyone here wouldnt respond if they didnt care. Its tough love. People with Bully breeds get alot of heat ESPECIALLY pit bull owners! So when a thread like this one is posted it gets under skin. With BSL growing at such a rapid speed the last thing our breed needs is one more person with a apbt- thats not stable giving areas another reason why apbt should be banned!!***

Here's something I posted on another thread. Please read it. :D

A Good Pit Bull

A Good Pit Bull is a very people-oriented dog. It's a dog who smiles at your visitors and greets them with a wagging tail. A good Pit Bull is confident and alert, and like most canines, will let you know if there is something around the house or in your driveway. However, a good Pit Bull will let YOU take care of intruders because YOU are the leader and its YOUR job to protect the pack. Your dog should not have to interpret threats and act on them.

You "hopefully" didn't get a Pit Bull to protect you anyway. If you needed a guard dog, you would have looked into other breeds more suitable for protection, or best, just get a good alarm system. You would not impose to an animal the responsibility to judge situations and make intelligent decisions that could eventually bite him back in the ass if ever he was wrong...!

You got a Pit Bull because you wanted a trustworthy and friendly companion, and maybe a dog with an impressive look and confidant demeanor so people would "think" you have a good guard dog. You have since realized that YOU better be the guard dog because your Pit Bull is indeed more at risk of being stolen than your TV.

Don't be bummed. If ever you are the victim of an act of violence, a good Pit Bull will probably instinctively attempt to defend you because you are the food provider and he depends on you for his survival (and yes, he loves you too If you are not being aggressed though, a good Pit Bull will be friendly with anyone with no distinction in regard to age, sex, skin color, clothing, ect, because a good Pit Bull is a stable dog and you have socialized him well.

You can take your good Pit Bull in public and do breed PR with him because you trust your dog and your dog trusts you. He is not unpredictable, unstable, fearful, uncontrollable, or selective of who he "likes" and who makes him uncomfortable. Your good Pit Bull will work with you to improve the reputation of the breed by showing people how cool and friendly good Pit Bulls really are.

If your dog is not like that, please do not take him in public and do all you can to keep him out of trouble. Remember that we are the solders of an important battle. Our dogs are no ordinary dogs. They are being "targeted", "pointed at" and "outcast" by society. They are on the verge of being completely banned out of this country. Our dogs have something to prove right now, and so do we.

Good Pit Bulls have good owners!

I wouldnt even worry about training your pit to protect you (cause it wont
work).
Just having a big dog in your house or walking (leashed) next to you will be enough to scare most people!!

Cause most people dont know that pits love people!! Most
people do think they are vicious mean dogs...and pits are
the opposite!! So just owning a pit should scare all these stupid
thugs away.

I've had people cross the street to avoid Orson and he is sooo sweet
to humans (he'll roll over on his back for a belly rub when a person
comes up to him). But since he's got muscles and a big head, people are scared!

Maybe when you take your pit for a walk, put a muzzle on her so
everyone will "THINK" she's mean  I'd avoid a muzzled dog!

Lol. Its so funny b/c I use to live in an apartment and I had to muzzle Legend whenever he was outside. People would just about knock and old lady over just to get out of his way. I'm like Geez people he's just a big puppy I have to muzzle him b/c I live here. I don't live in the apt. anymore and Now that he's just about 85lbs of goofyness HE CLEARS THE BLOCK! I stand there saying he doesnt even bite! lol

Dude, you CAN move! If it's that bad you SHOULD move before the crack heads and thugs STEAL your dog and/or rob/hurt you BECAUSE of your dog, or age, or whatever. I'm seriously worried about you and I don't even know you. There are always better options. I'm sure someone on here NEAR your area might be able to help you find a better place to live for around the same price. Seriously, get the heck out of there before you or your dog gets hurt or killed.

I agree with everyone here. It's not a good idea to teach your dog Banana. You could however teach him a secret word that means speak, or maybe even snarl. That should be plenty scary.

I understand why you would be put on the defensive, but you'll soon realize it's best to not be too quick on the keyboard. Phrase your questions & responses carefully. If you love your dog, don't give up on this forum. There's so much to be learned here. Members of this forum are so helpful & supportive once you get to know them. Give it a chance.
you don't have to teach him that, CC hates crackheads, never had to teach her that, the smell of them sets her off. as long as they look mean, they wont want to find out if he is or not.
In my short time with my pooch (7 months), I've found that most "scary" people are inherently fearful of the dog, and will do everything in their power to not come near me/us. Just having the dog as your companion will be scary enough. I would never want to teach my AB how to "sic em". It would be just too dangerous.
