Being a puppy or weak nerves?

I am a relatively new puppy owner and Loki (15 1/2 weeks old) has been displaying some behavior that has me a bit concerned. I read the following thread and am worried that he may have weak nerves. At the same time, I'm wondering if this is just part of being a puppy and that he'll grow out of his fears.

http://www.bulldogbreeds.com/discuss/viewtopic.php?p=44837

1. He is apprehensive around strangers. Loki is a little reserved when guests (2 or less) come over, but will eventually greet and warm up to them. Last week, my wife's family came over (8 people) and he cowered for the entire night. Normal?

2. When he first saw my neighbor's kids playing in the backyard, he started barking at them. He's used to them now and no longer barks, but I was worried that this was a sign of people aggression.

3. When my other neighbor (who he has met) goes to work in her backyard, he will bark at first, bounce back and forth, then eventually go up to her.

4. This one is my biggest concern: I just recently started taking him on short walks. Eventually, something will spook him (eg, kids on bikes, motorcycles) and he will absolutely freak out. He panics and drags me all the way back to my house, literally choking himself the entire way. When I try to stand my ground (ala Cesar Millan), he just fights harder and cries/barks a bit. I'm really concerned about this and am hoping that as a puppy, he's just fearful of the unknown. But something is telling me that this just isn't normal. Help!

I'm no expert and Stymie was not a puppy (he was around 9 months) when we got him. But it took a while for him to get used to all the noise & distractions on the street. The worst was motorcycles, he would do the same, try & drag me home. He will now even go into a sit with a motorcycle passing. I think they just have to get used to things. You said that you just recently starting taking him so he probably just needs some time to figure things out. The one thing that I did learn is not to baby him when he's scared, did this with my previous dog and he never stopped being scared. Now I just walk giving words of encourgement in my happiest voice while dragging him down the street (my neighbors, no my whole town, must think I'm nuts) but it seemed to work. Good luck.
I don't know but I love your dog!!! You can just tell by the picture that his ears are like velvet :)
I don't know proable too early to tell, however your pup is too cute!!
Well, any time I see a dog or puppy freak out a red flag goes up for me. Especially if its something that happens on a regular basis and if the recovery rate is slow. If your pup is being spooked regualrily I would defintiely question the strength of his nerve and be cautious with him around people. Still have him out around people, but do not force him to be friendly with them so to speak. You don't want an accident happening.

I would work on confidence building through motivational obedience. You can do this while in the presence of people. This will teach your dog that it doesn't have to approach people and be friendly with them but it does have to learn to work through the stress of those people being around by focussing on you. Hopefully, with some work your pup's character will get stronger but it may not. It depends on the severity. Sometimes it can actually get worse with age, even with the proper conditioning. It's really tough to tell with him being so young and not being able to see him in person.

Good luck.

My pup is not as i would say freaked at everything but she was very scared when i say her before i got her, you see i got her from my next door neighboor who has some problems with taking care of animals well when her son moved ourt of ihis old place he let the dog with his mother
(my neighboor) well shes never been good with animals and we called the cops on her a couple of times for starving her kittens that werent valuable see she would breed her cats till she got a valuable one. killing all the others. well unexpectedly that dog (snickers was her name) had a litter of puppies coming up.. welll these just put the puppies outside away from there mother all night that was about in december in washington is pretty cold.

THEY LASTED A COUPLE WEEKS LIKE THAT, till i started complaining, i said there gonnna die if you leave them out like that, and they said but the vet said that if there 6 months theyll be fine well thats true if there 6 months(still cruel even if they are 6 months) WEll i got fed up and called animal control but they said scince im only 25 im not old enogh to make a recorded complaint. so i ask the owner if i could build a house for the pups and she said yes (suprisingly) so i did me and my bro made a three room VERY warm cardboard waterproof house. well the next day when it wasnt even raining we watched them (secretly) hose down the house and throw it out along with all the blankets i had put in there. Well they had a couple grandchildren over the next day to see the puppies my puppy that i have now ran and hid wherever she could on that cold deck. well lets just say i ended up with that Pup She was the jumpiest pup i ever seen she was scared of everything till she started to be loved i never put her in a crate when i got her i just let her sleep with me on my bed and a couple of days after she started warming up to my family still when ever shes sees my nextdoor neighboors she freaks and runs inside!
