I have noticed lately Tank has had small welts on his back legs, side and top of the head.. I think they are from biting flies. Is there some kind of spray I can put on him that wont hurt his skin?

Thanks

My vet sells a special product - works really well. (expensive) I've also tried the childrens brands of mosquito repellents they all seem to work just as well and are designed for young sensitive skin. I haven't had any skin trouble on my dogs with the kids brands and they don't lick at them either.

My friends who kennel their dogs outside go to the farm supply store and get fly cream that is made for horses. It does the same thing and is way cheaper than anything you could get from your vet made specifically for dogs. I am not sure the name of the stuff my friends use but it is pink. Works well but kinda looks funny...LOL!

We were up at my cabin last weekend and poor Bogey had welts all over him too. He must be really sensitive to them. I'm going to have to check out that horse fly cream. Is it actually a cream? If so, how do you apply it?

Now that I think about it I think the stuff they use is called "SWAT". Not 100%, sure but pretty sure. Here is the link that describes it. They call it an "oitment". I think you can order it online!

We've had this problem lately too, it had gotten to the point that I couldn't even let the dogs out to play. Those little buggers wouldn't leave them alone! This is what I bought, and has worked GREAT so far...

(Got these products at PetsMart.) "Pre-Strike" Outdoor Fogger.. I just sprayed that around my patio. Works great, there are no insects in sight.

Then I also got "Mosquito Halt" for Dogs. It just sprays on their coats, and needs to be applied daily.

So far, no flies. :D

When my mom was married to her ex - they bred and raised Huskys. She told me they would get the Fly spray for horses (not sure if it is concentrated or pre-mixed) and use it on their bellies and ears. It's not as messy as the creams and it lasts alot longer. You can get it at any farm supply store.

we had the same problem with Titus he still has 2 knots on his head where they bit him and he keeps scratching at them and breaking them open so it has been 3 weeks and they are slowly going away... we went to a feed store and got something called Ultra Sheild it is for horses but can also be used on dogs you just spray/wipe it on their coats and it has worked for us...

Kate got horrible black fly bites on her belly, I can only imagine what her back looked like.

Kasco let us use her Avon skin so soft bug spray. The weekend I had it to use, it rained all weekend so I did not get the chance to use it.

But if you don't have a horse shop arouund you to get their bug repellant.... try a sensative skin human bug spray. should work just as well and will not harm their skin
