Broken Leg????

OK question for my little brother--

he backed over his pup tonight with the car and we think his back leg is broken but the vet hasn't returned our calls yet. we confined him to a box so he can't move around too much but do you guys think he'll be ok till the morning? I can't imagine why the vet hasn't answered his "emergency" voice mail yet. The closest ER is about 50 miles away.... I don't know what to tell him to do!

I wouldn't leave it over night. It is probably very painful.

Hopefully he gets better fast!! :)
Tala broke her back leg a while back. If you really think it's broken, I would recommend driving the 50 miles to the ER to have it set properly asap. Not only that, but breaking the leg is extremely stressful to a puppy and he'll need to be put on an IV to restore electrolytes, etc.
ok so he went to vet last night and his ankle was broken. they set it in a cast and say he should be good to go.......I am so glad my bro took him on to the vet.....
Poor little guy. I hope it heals up nicely and everything.
Oh poor baby! Now how in the world did he run over his foot. What was a young pup doing outside without being watched or on a leash.
Its a good thing you took him. bones start healing instantly, and if you would have waited, he may have had to have it re set-painful!

When my son broke his arm, Christmas eve, we waited because we was not sure it was broken. Christmas we were in the hospital and had to re set it, because the bones started healing instantly. That made it weaker, and took longer to heal. He wore a cast for 6 weeks, had it removed, fell the same day and rebroke it, because it was still a weak area, so the cast stayed on through Easter!

all their dogs live outside..... I don't always agree but he isn't my pup :? and he is very well taken care of and loved so there isn't much else I can say to them about it...I do feel real bad for the poor guy tho he is so adorable!
