I have a year and a half old pit mix. Loves to play all the time. But lately he's getting worse with the barking/nipping/biting for attention. Tried to ignore him, or "withdrawal attention?" but my boyfriend and I(mostly him) is getting REALLY annoyed with it. I told him we just have to ignore the dog when he barks like that. When I do and my boyfriends not around, it seems to work. One of us would be on the phone or on a computer, and Harley just barks and barks to get attention. Also, he's getting worse biting, not drawing blood, just hurts. Lil bugger bit me before and I gave him a time-out! That seems to work, until I let him out of his crate.
Yelling seems to work also, but I feel bad. I don't know what to do anymore. :(

Funny you should mention that, last night I threatened to shove my boot up his arse!*LOL*
I'm a size 8-1/2, my boyfriends a 12 :)
And he thought getting a rectal exam from the vet was bad... I felt so bad for him!*L*
Just read the sticky about the NILIF- I think I'll give that a try. If that dont work I'm calling Cesar!

Put him some where very lonely!! A dark boring bathroom works wonders............How much do you play/exercise him? He could be bored out of his mind.

Don't bother Cesar! You can have my mother-in-law. They've always had dogs & still do. If anyone of them would nip or bit or even attempt it, she'd have that dog in her lap giving it a lecture & then following through on her words, "I'm gonna bite that little black bug of yours!" I don't recall any of her dogs biting excepting when they were pups. It sure was a funny site to see this woman holding a dog (beagle) in her lap, closing it's snout & biting it's nose!

Maria-Where does she live?*L*
Last night my dog was barking like crazy(I let him in the bedroom with my boyfriend cuz he wanted to follow him) Then 5 minutes later I hear my boyfriend yelling at him - practically at the top of his lungs. So i go in and the dogs biting him, thinking its play time. So i take the dog out, tell him no biting, daddy's tired. Lil bastard bit ME so i gave him a timeout for about an hour. By then my boyfriend was asleep. Let the dog in with me, and he eventually went to sleep. When my boyfriend woke up, dog got up, stretched, and started biting his hand. Then when Harley saw his daddy was awake, he went back to sleep. Figures!*L*
This dog gets a LOT of timeouts-then he starts up again!
I'm gonna try the NILIF program tonight! I'll let you know if it works!

My EB had nipping problems when he was a few months old. He is now 8 months and wouldn't even dare to think to bite me. I got this piece of advice from my friend's mom who is an EB enthusiast to the max. Here's what you do. Next time your dog bites you, grab his face, look him straight in the eye and yell "OUCH!!!" as loud as you can. Next, grab one of his front paws and bite down hard enough to leave a slight indentation and wait for your dog to yelp. Immediately release your grip on the paw and, while glaring at the dog, growl and then simply walk away and ignore your dogs for several minutes. I only had to do this once and it worked like a charm. Now when I wrestle with my dog he occasional puts his mouth over my finger/arm, but never applies pressure. Think about it.

The only time(s) he bites/nips is his way of playing. If he gets out of hand, we'll just shoot him :)
He SO hyper. I gotta take him for walks before the weather gets crappy. Yah I keep saying that!*L*
Now its bedtime, I hear him barking in the other room-he wants to play
Kids!
Thanks guys, I'll try anything!
