No experience firsthand, just wanted to say I'm sorry :( My grandmother had a chi that had cataracts. I was young then though.

No experience with cataracts in dogs, but I do work for a people eye doctor. The surgery they do on them these days is so quick and easy. People have it done and walk right out of the office. Almost everyone gets cataracts if they live long enough. Having one is like looking through cellophane. Think of it as having saran wrap over your eye and they go in with a laser and it just "melts" the cataracts away. Again, not sure about dogs. Hopefully it can be as simple for her.

My 11yr old westie has a mature cataract in his right eye. We initially thought about surgery but because his cataract mature so quickly, we suspect he has some lens issues and doing the surgery is no guarantee that he would regain vision. To me, it wasnt worth the 2k for no guarantees. He gets Atropine eye drops every three days to help keep the cataract stable.
