I just started using a stainless steel collar on Loki this weekend and it has started staining her fur. I just ordered one made out of curogan that shouldnt stain. In the mean time, does anyone have any ideas on getting the black stain out of her fur? Its not bad but her fur is so bright white you can notice it. And I'm anal.

Thanks

Thom

I would try spraying some Oxyclean on the area (get the powder and add water - that way you can make it as consentrated as you need to) and dabbing with a clean cloth or paper towel to remove the staining. Then rinse with clean water once your done. Oxyclean is non-toxic and wonderful stuff - I used it on my white cat after she rubbed against a table DH was staining. I also use it on carpet stains and when I do laundry.

Otherwise, you can see about using some whitening shampoo or tear stain remover. Not sure how well either of those would work, cuz I have always used the Oxyclean.

Good luck, and I know how you feel - Im very anal about my white critters being clean. I hate it when they are dirty and dingy looking.

Even the Currogan collars are known to stain. It's really hard to avoid this problem.

You could try bathing Loki using a whitening shampoo. I get pretty good results with that.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll try some peroxide, the shampoo we have does nothing. Her current leather collar stained her at first but I stayed on top of it and was able to keep her fur clean.

Lisa, is there any whitening shampoo that you recommend?

I know the curogan can stain too, but its less likely.

I went nuts on K9toolbox lastnight :p I got all kinds of cool stuff.

kogeki try visiting your nearest neibourhood tack shop/co-op anywhere that deals in horse supplies. the whitenin shampoos are awesome, smell great and are a heck of alot cheaper than anything you will by at the petstore. personally i like the farnam products the best . i have always had german steel collars so never had to find out if they will remove the stains

Cool, I'll check that out. So the Herm Sprenger's are less likely to stain even though they are the same metal?

Also get Brass fur saver or choker they do not stain white fur. Brass is a bit more expensive but they never stain in my experience

they say (not sure who "they" are tho  ) that alot depends on the dogs metabolism. some dogs stain worse than others for some reason. the curogan collars are great but if left on all the time they do seem to stain, tho not as badly as the regular chrome plated ones. the two i have i got a million years ago, they are supposedly german steel and they do not stain, ever, even after getting wet and being on forever. no rusting, no staining. let me tell you if i could figure out where rick got em from i could make a mint!
as for the shampoo... let me know when u pick it up, cause izzy needs a bath :laughing5: :laughing5:

Cowboy Magic, has the best whitening shampoo for horses. When you lather it up the whole horse is blue, its really funny, but when you wash it out, WOW  Beautiful White!!!!

I should be good for dogs too, cause the horse I had, had really bad sensitive skin, and it was okay for him.

A second vote for Cowboy Magic!!! My friend has a paint with LOTS of chrome (as they say...) and she's just dazzling after a bath. Until she rolls, of course.
