Kate has this dark rash on her belly from her spay scar and down. there is a circle surrounding her spay scar that is a dark brown and in between her legs it is darker too with darker red splotches.

I thought it was allergies since she had allergies last year, but last year they were red. It is the brown that is making me concerned. I did benedryl and it didn't get any worse but definitly did not change at all.

One reason I am slightly concerned is I am going on vacation today until Tuesday and have to board Kate so she wont be able to keep up the benedryl. I would like to be able to wait until I get back to take her to the vet incase she needs medications. I decided to wait and let the people at the boarding place know and to keep an eye on her and if it gets worse to take her to the vet. But I just wanted to check to see if anyone had any idea why brown instead of red before I drop her off

This one shows the darkness of the scar the best

This one you can see her inner leg the best with the dark spots

Jazzy went through that, too. Her belly turned almost a purple-ish color for a while. If theres no rash or heat in the area, I wouldn't worry about it.

There is a bump on the dark part of the scar... that part is the darkest too

Daisy has a 'rust' colored rash on her belly also. When I clean up the area it disappears. I know it just sounds like dirt, but the vet told me she has a Staph infection and gave me an antibiotic ointment for it. He said it should clear up with the medication in about 10 days. It has been about five so far, and the rash is less and less noticable each day.

I know that we went through that with Sugar. She has an allergy to something. It stained her little tootie and the spaces between the pads on her feet and around her mouth. I got some malaseb wipes and used them for about a week and it cleared right up. Check to see if it is anywhere else on her.

Definitly some color in between her toes too...

so do you guys think its okay to wait until after I get back from vacation to do something about it?

Edit: when I get home from work around 1:30 I'll take a picture to see what you guys think. I am getting picked up at about 2:45 to take Kate so that should give a small amount of time to see if you guys think it is similar to what you have had

Oh yeah..I do if you notice it in other places. I really think it is what Sugar had. Have you changed her diet or is she eating out of plastic bowls?

I think Sugar's allergy was grass. It seemed to get worse when she was outside in tall grass for a long period of time. But what do you do about an allergy to grass? LOL Get a backyard like the Brady's!! I'm sure it is nothing Jo! Do send pics though.

Nueter

mine where males so they were nuetered But the both of them had that around the scar and a rash & a bump , Everything went away and they were fine it was just a reaction to the surgery. I had them checked was nothing to worry about. It will pass as long as there is no white puss or fever or raw red areas etc she should be fine. I would just watch it

Hmmm....not what Jazzy's looked like. Her's could be allergy or it could maybe be yeast. I would have it looked at before you go, just incase.

I really think it is an allergy. I can't really see the scar well enough to say the same about it. Maybe I would have her checked out just in case. I'll bet the bank that it is allergies though.

OMGosh... DOGGIE PORN!!!

j/k.... seriously, put some antibiotic cream on it... should clear it up. baylee had something similar to that as a young pup and the vet wanted to put her on meds, but they forgot to give them to me... so we put jock-itch cooling spray on it, and poof....gone

next vet visit they credited me my money back since the rash was gone....

It could be anything from just dermatitis to a yeast infection although the pics seem to lean more towards a slight yeast infection on the skin. This might sound strange, but it you do a "scratch-n-sniff" test is there a smell? I know, I know, but that can help.

However, just to be safe, you might just want to run her back up to the vet's office or give them a call & see what they say. They might be able to prescribe a shampoo and/or cream to try on her.

well she has been spayed for over a year. So that why it makes me wonder why not it goes just around the scar

But thanx for all your help guys. I appreciate it. I gave her some more benedryl and took her to the kennel. I mentioned it to them to just keep an eye on it. If it is still there when I get back I'm definitly going to take her to the vet and get it checked out.

Same thing happened with Harley. Got some sort of salve made up by my vet and it was cleared up in about a week maybe a little longer.
