Ok guys I got one or ya... Titus was bitten by a deef fly about a week ago, ever since then he has had 2 bumps on his head almost like a misquito bite...well these bites were not going down and were pretty much staying the same size and they have not been itching him or anything. Well yesterday out of nowhere they got bigger and the top of the bump is all red and raw looking...now they did not bite our other dog Zeke but they seem to love poor Titus. Both of them get sprayed down with Frontline once a month but it does not seem to deter these pesky deer flies. I am not sure how to treat the bumps on his head or if I need to take him to the vet, cause it doesn't seem to be bothering him in any way he is still eating and acting like his normal self??? Anyone that has delt with this have any suggestions??

Well I have no advice about the current situation except maybe see a vet because it sounds like it had a bad reaction and might be infected.

But to deter them.... when I go up to the moutains with Kate she gets bit BAD by the black flies, I'm just waiting for the deer flies to come around. well Kasco lent me Avon Skin So Soft to try on Kate.... I haven't had the chance to use it yet. but I would suggest something like that, a gentle bug repelant just in case they lick where you spray.

well we just moved in to our new house recently and I hadn't had a chance to check up on the vets around here... well I took Titus in just to make sure everything was ok, well he gave me some antibiotics and told me to basically keep the bumps clean, and had no suggestions on how to repel the deer flies.... (I guess he was not very helpful!!) I mean I live in a area where everyone has dogs or livestock or horses or something and is wooded etc... and he does not have any suggestions...geesh! Well gonna give the little man his antibiotics and hope all clears up I guess, I'll try for a few days and if nothing seems to be happening I guess I will try one of the other vets in town....mumble mumble mumble!!!!

Cool thanks for the post Kate....

Well I gave him his first dose of antibiotics and I put some neosporin on the bumps after I cleaned them up and it did wonders, alot of the redness is gone and they don't seem to be so swollen... so I guess I will keep up with the neosporin and antibiotics... and in the mean time try to find that fly spray!!!
