So we were outside playing,my kids,hubby and dogs.We have our backyard which is fenced then the woods which is ours which is behind the fence so to get to the woods you have to go through the fence.Anyway my husband was working down in the woods and my daughter was playing and running around in the woods as well.I had buster with me in the fenced off part.Well I saw my daughter sneaking up on Buster( she called it playing Peek-a-boo) Well Buster let out a Bark and growl that I have never heard before.I know he wasn't sure who was coming his way with all the trees and shrubs and he was standing with tail up in air and firm stance while letting out this bark.Once he saw my daughter the tail starts going and all is good.I was proud of him cause it seemed he was protecting me but am I wrong? He normally doesn't bark at all only when playing and that goes for growling.Is it possible at his age to be protective of us???

Do you think maybe he was being vocal because he was scared. Not scared of your daughter but just caught off guard. You know how someone walks up behind you and scares you and you either scream or at least make a loud noise. Maybe that's what he was doing and it took a minute for him to realize that it was a member of his family. Of course I'm no expert but that's just my opinion.

My little puppy does this when he is caught off guard.

That makes sense to me. My cat was in the bathrom last night and knocked something over and it made a loud sound and Boss jumped up barked and ran to the noise. But he never barks, like literally, he barks maybe one time a day. So yeah, I think he was just caught off guard and got scared a bit.
