Does she look fat to you?

Just want to make sure.....maybe it's me, but I'm scared she is getting fat. I know EBs are supposed to be broad chested and be able to feel their ribs, but it just seems she's gotten a little thicker lately. I feed her two cups a day of Blue Mountain: 1 cup in morning, 1 cup in evening with a couple treats during the day. I exercise (walk) her once a day and maybe twice a week we'll go to the dog park. Can you guys tell me what you think? I tried to get a photo of her from top, but she wouldn't stand still long enough, so this was the best I could do.

Thanks

Sorry, I read your post after I had already posted!! I would say cut back to 1.5 cups and see how it goes. You want her to loose a pound a week-ish until she looks like she's back at an appropriate weight. Not faster than that, or it's unhealthy, but shaving off a half a cup should do it. If she's not loosing that (or she's gaining) them go to one cup, etc.. The hardest part (IMO) is finding the new food amount once you have the weight off them. You have to increase it a little once they hit their ideal weight so that they don't keep loosing, but you also don't want to pack the pounds right back on! Good luck with this!

How old is Maycee? I know that 50lbs is the average weight for females on NZ. I give DJ one 15min walk in the morning then one 30 min walk in the afternoon up a steep hill. What type of exercise are you doing with her?Just a walk?
Yes, I am just walking with her, but she plays with Madison all day long and constantly chasing after her. I think I will start by cutting back her food a bit. I think she's getting enough exercise. Yeah, I thought 45-50 lbs was average too for a female. And I don't believe she doesn't have muscle tone because she's definitely solid as a rock in some places. Her little legs look like tree branches!

LOL! Maybe I will train her to walk on my treadmill.

2 cups is alot for a 50pd dog-Orson was eating 2 cups of kibble when he was 70 pds.

You can send her to "fat camp" ie: my house  if you want!!!
Wow, didn't know that! GAWD, it will feel like I'm starving her :(

I think from the replies I received, that's my answer tho. I will cut back on her food. Will keep everyone informed in a couple of weeks how she is doing. I will take before (well, already have them) and after.

Thanks for all your help!

P.S. Sure, I'll send her to your house. I'm sure she'll have a blast with Orson and lil' Lolita! :D

When you say you have been giving her 2 cups of food... are you counting treats and cookies too? She may be getting about 3 cups worth of calories with treats included. Just like our 'treats' they are loaded with fat and empty calories, but taste SOOOOO good.
No, she only gets two biscuits a day and those are the one's about the size of a half of a pinky finger. They are bite size. Then of course she eats her bully stick for about an hour a day, then i take that away from her.

If you're a bad mommy then you can just count me in with you!! Brody's a little "thick" too! I've cut back his food, but I feel bad because he just loves to eat and now he's stalking the other two's bowls at meal times. I'm willing to do it, I just want him to be healthy as possible. He was eating over two cups a day of a quality food and now he's down to a little over 1.5. He's starting to slim up and we're walking him a little more. You're not alone!! EB's are just a little harder to read weight on then other dogs!!

BTW - I just love Maycee and think she's sexy as hell even if she is a little juicy!!

Thanks for the support! As my vet said, all bullies love their groceries! EB's are hard to read and like I said, I just noticed in 1 day that maybe she was getting a little thick around the middle. I don't think she's THAT overweight, I would say 3-4 pounds, then I will reevaluate her feeding again. Mayce does have a broad chest and it's hard to see in the photos. I think she's a little sex kitten too. She's my lil' Bon Bon!

Also to me Brody doesn't look overweight at all! He's a little stud muffin himself!

Ya, she definitely needs to shed a bit. My female AB that weighs just over #60 gets 2 cups of food per day and she is lean. If I give her any "extras" I give even less kibble than that. Your dog would look much better around 45#. Personally, I would cut her back to 1 cup per day until she loses the wieght at which point I would up it to 1.5 cups as a maintenance amount. The reason why I say that is because if you only cut it back to 1.5 cups for her diet, it will take a long time to take off the weight, then where do you go for a maintenance amount after that? Back up to 2 cups that caused her to be too fat?

I second what Lisa said..... Maycie is pretty chunkie, and cutting back to one cup a day will get her back into shape in no time. Just an example.... my EB only gets 1 1/2 cups a day...he's about 42 pounds at 2 years of age, he's solid muscle and has a nice tuck and the hourglass shape when you look from the top. My 60# AB girl gets 2 cups a day and is lean, and my 100# AB male gets 2-21/2 cups a day and is lean. It's definitely much healthier for them to be lean......extra weight can be h**l on the joints, etc. in the long term. Not to mention thier heatrs.....EB's have enough issues as it is, so any extra help is a plus!
