If you're a bad mommy then you can just count me in with you!! Brody's a little "thick" too! I've cut back his food, but I feel bad because he just loves to eat and now he's stalking the other two's bowls at meal times. I'm willing to do it, I just want him to be healthy as possible. He was eating over two cups a day of a quality food and now he's down to a little over 1.5. He's starting to slim up and we're walking him a little more. You're not alone!! EB's are just a little harder to read weight on then other dogs!!

BTW - I just love Maycee and think she's sexy as hell even if she is a little juicy!!

Thanks for the support! As my vet said, all bullies love their groceries! EB's are hard to read and like I said, I just noticed in 1 day that maybe she was getting a little thick around the middle. I don't think she's THAT overweight, I would say 3-4 pounds, then I will reevaluate her feeding again. Mayce does have a broad chest and it's hard to see in the photos. I think she's a little sex kitten too. She's my lil' Bon Bon!

Also to me Brody doesn't look overweight at all! He's a little stud muffin himself!

Ya, she definitely needs to shed a bit. My female AB that weighs just over #60 gets 2 cups of food per day and she is lean. If I give her any "extras" I give even less kibble than that. Your dog would look much better around 45#. Personally, I would cut her back to 1 cup per day until she loses the wieght at which point I would up it to 1.5 cups as a maintenance amount. The reason why I say that is because if you only cut it back to 1.5 cups for her diet, it will take a long time to take off the weight, then where do you go for a maintenance amount after that? Back up to 2 cups that caused her to be too fat?

I second what Lisa said..... Maycie is pretty chunkie, and cutting back to one cup a day will get her back into shape in no time. Just an example.... my EB only gets 1 1/2 cups a day...he's about 42 pounds at 2 years of age, he's solid muscle and has a nice tuck and the hourglass shape when you look from the top. My 60# AB girl gets 2 cups a day and is lean, and my 100# AB male gets 2-21/2 cups a day and is lean. It's definitely much healthier for them to be lean......extra weight can be h**l on the joints, etc. in the long term. Not to mention thier heatrs.....EB's have enough issues as it is, so any extra help is a plus!

Personally I don't think a cup a day is enough food at all. Maycee is still considered a puppy. My daughter has an EB and she eats 2.5 cups a day and she's only 45 lbs. I am cutting her food down, but not by much. I would rather her lose it slowly, then all at once. I don't want her to get sick from not enough nutrition.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I appreciate it.

I made a Vet appt and will let you know what he says.

If you are going to go ahead and just do it your way, and ultimately consult a vet for their opinion, why even waste people's time with them trying to offer up suggestions to help you get the pudge off your dog?

Makes no sense at all.

Honestly Big Ant, be NICE. She IS taking some people's advice, just not yours. You're all ass-hurt cause she didn't listen to you. Leave her alone.

Would you get the hell off my jock already. I don't know what your deal is, but seriously, calm down already, I ain't breakin' you off none of this, and it's getting rather old.

Leave her alone.
I don't care if she listened to me, but there were people here offering up advice, taking the time to write it up, explaining and whatnot, then she goes and says, well I'm gonna do this, and then talk to a vet. Well why waste people's time.

I'm won't respond to your response because I won't stoop to your level. If the moderators choose to X me, so be it. I said to everyone I appreciate everyone's response. This is why there are forums so we can ask questions....correct? Do you take everyone's advice on this board? Probably not.....

also keep in mind that Maycee might have a slower metabolism than other dogs that's why 2 cups is making her pudgy. There are some dogs out there that cant keep weight on no matter how much they eat. That's why the other dog can eat so much and still only weigh 45pds.
Just like people!!

Oh and if you are feeding her 1 cup of great quality food, she will be gettin enough nutrients. Plus this will only be for about a month, then you can take her up to 1-1/2 cups for maintenence.
if you think she's starving (she actually wont be) but she'll act like it, just
give her some pumpkin or veggies to keep her belly full without adding calories!!
Good luck-i've been there before with a juicy dog!
