I have a 4.5 month old pitbull. Is it still safe for him to get his ears cropped or should i leave them like they are now. If i can still crop them i will, but if i can't i love him the way he is.

just like the above post. I think there was a topic about this that stated the best age to get an ear cropping was young, once you get into the older months it puts more stress on the dog.

I am a lover of floppy ears......Let them flop!!!!
OR...get them done by someone who will do a good job!!

I'd leave them alone if I were you because of his age. It would probably be too stressful and traumatizing for him now. Plus, what happens if they don't come out like you want? You can never get them back. :(

While I think some dogs look good with cropped ears, unless you're planning on showing your dog in conformation, there is absolutely no good reason to crop. "Because I like the way it looks" is a terrible reason to put your dog through surgery.

Honestly dude, I love the crop look. I have it done to all my dogs~HOWEVER your dog is TOO OLD already for this. And if a vet tells you he can do it despite his age........DONT LISTEN! You are just asking for definate to come trouble! Infection, a 9 week olds ears take over a month to heal, let alone a dog that age, the aweful pain is hard to recover from, sedation, etc. Dixie had hers done at 9 weeks old, and beleive it or not, that was even the end of our vet visits through the front door, we have to use the back now!

Not at that age, trust me.

There is this dude that says he can cut ears at any age in PG (Pleasant Grove) for $50.00, and that he puts the dogs to sleep with a shot, so they won't feel any pain.

This is a joke right? Seriously, if you go to some "dude" who will crop his ears for $50, just don't come back here.

I prefer floppy ears, but to each their own. If someone is going to get it done, go to a professional. This is your dog we are talking about. It should be ok to spend a little bit of money for your dog to have them done right.

If you had a kid, would you pay some "dude" $50 to circumcise him?

Give em a lil bit of a break. if your dog is 4.5 months he is about 2 weeks to old. They have to be 16 weeks or less or otherwise the surgery is not safe. I would damn sure let nobody crop my dogs ears for 50 bucks period. Especiallly if thats the same dude who cropped your nieghbors dogs ears. Ear cropping should be left to proffesional vets not dumbasses with siscors. I do like the look of ear croppings but your dog is to old and no vet will do it. Nor should it be attempted to be done. If i see a pic of him a few weeks with his ears cropped i am going to fly to texas and crop your ears.

he has his own business that specializes in cropped ears. nice facilities (Not just some house), and very experienced. I have seen pictures of the dogs he has done, and they all look good. TRUST ME i made sure that he wasn't going to mess my dogs ears up. He says at an older age he just does something else to the dog to make sure his ears aren't going to get messed up.
