My AB eats sticks all the time. I have to limit her time outside because she always has a stick in her mouth. She'll eat them and throw up around 3am faithfully. Then she has really soft stools for about a week, then she's fine. But it's a never ending cycle because she keeps eat them. We have gone as far as to have all of our huge white oaks, except one (need some shade), out of the yard. The less that's in there the better. I guess!
Someone once told me that the reason my dog eats so many sticks is because she's lacking something in her diet. I don't know if it's true or not. Another person told me it was behavioral. Well I'm switching food and she starts training on the 24th, so we'll see.
