I've heard both theories. That dogs drinking alot of water right after eating dry food causes bloat and then also that adding water to the dry food first causes bloat. I dont know which is true.
hey not starting a fight but think about it if you pre water the food it cant get anybigger in ther tummie so how would they get boating if its pre watered down?its all ready as big (bloated ) as its going to get before they eat!...

lol,,,food for thought! no pun intended!

I agree, pre watering it down makes more sense to me in terms of prevention of bloat but I have just heard both sides. I also heard that using an elevated food and water bowl prevents bloat and then it causes it. Whow knows :doubt:

I have heard both also. I think it is like SIDS in babies, they can't make up thier minds on if they should sleep on back or tummy to sleep. I am 29 and use to babysit alot when I was younger and they have already changed that 3 or 4 times since then. I think its one of those things they really aren't sure what causes it so they just tell you alot of things to be careful on. IMO

I feed Abby twice a day and let her drink water after. Either way the food blows up and the water and food end up in the same place. That's also why you shouldn't excersice them right after they eat because the food and the water bubbling in the stomach will cause bloat cause the food is hard to digest with all the jumbling.

Bloat remedy:
Don't feed the dog enough for it to be too much in their stomach. Also, even if they don't drink water right afterward, there is still liquid/acid in their stomach that could cause the food to expand.

My two adult dogs get one 8-oz. scoop, twice a day. And, my "pup" get three 8-oz. scoops, twice a day. None of them have ever experienced bloat. Always dry food, never moistened.

actually steve there is proof of the exact opposite. any deep chested breed is prone to bloat and adding water is not only bad for the teeth but it seems to add to the chance of bloating. smaller meals, food balls or large rocks in the dish to slow down feeding can help. i have some really good info on what to do if your dog does bloat i will try and find it for you
