true indeed
Hey Man!
If you want a good food for a good price that has worked for my bully (who has crazy stomach issues), try out the Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach. It's a black and pink bag, comes in 35lbs for just under $50. It's probably even cheaper in the states.
It's a limited ingredient diet so dogs don't react to all the "extras" that many companies put in the food (fruit, veg, different meat and starch sources, etc).
This is ONLY salmon, Rice and Oatmeal.
My Bowser was on Royal Canin as a pup and it destroyed his immune and digestive system. The Pro Plan SS&S did wonders for him and he has very firm poops.

Give her a try! If not, then I recommend the Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish that Morley is on. It's far more pricey however.

All the best!

But he should also consider the quality of the ingredients in the Pro Plan. TOTW is grain free and is $43 for 35#... some places it's cheaper. I can get it for $39.
Oh I totally hear you. However, if his EB really has stomach problems, TOTW will be no good because it is not a limited ingredient food. Bowser couldn't handle all the extra fruit, and veggie sources. Grain free is great, but for dogs with really sensitive digestive systems, all the unnecessary fillers will wreak havoc.

I also don't see anything terrible in the Pro Plan. It contains Salmon, fish meal, rice, and oatmeal. No weird fillers or anything. Honestly, it has the same ingredients as the high quality vet food that my vet was pushing.
I'm not looking to get into an argument, but just because it's a Purina product does not necessarily mean that it's crap like many of their other formulas. This one seems to live up to it's "hype".
Again, it's all personal opinion, and I know that it worked for my dog, so I think that's justification enough not to necessary rule it out as a decent kibble.

I'm not going to get on your case but you may want to read this review: Dog Food Reviews - Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach Formula - Powered by ReviewPost
I trust this site as they are non bias and have nothing to profit from it. I'm very selective when choosing foods for my store, most I would feed to my own pets. I wish the foods could be judged by the stool but if you load any dog full of grains you are sure to have a hard poop. I stay away from "commercial brands" as they tend to spend their money on advertising rather then using quality ingredients.
Paul what do you recommend as a high quality limited ingredient grain free dog food? I'm thinking about switching Bowser from the Pro Plan. He does well with fish and really can't eat fruit or vegetables. The more limited te ingredients the better :)

Acana makes an apple and lamb LI food. That would be the only LI kibble I'd feel comfortable feeding a dog. Btw, raw is as limited ingredient you can get :p
One day I'll switch to raw. One day :)
This Acana is not limited ingredient at all! It's full of fruit and veg. Not something I'd feed bowser.
Leaning towards DVP Sweet taters and fish.

Thanks! So far so good! Poops are still solid which is wonderful. Just waiting to see if it improves his skin issues. Bowz has developed red tear stains, red between the toes and under his tail. He's also started shedding like mad and his coat is really dull. Hoping for the best :) Fingers crossed!

fwiw, I wouldn't feed grain free / lower carb / high protein kibble to a pup less than a yr old. I would also only feed high protein food to an adult dog who was very active / drivey, otherwise it can cause undue stress on the kidneys and liver.

If you want a good non-allergenic food, you could look into California Naturals. It still has a healthy balance for a pup.
All the California Naturals formulas have the same Amount of protein with the exception of the insanely high 36%. What's wrong with 21%? DVP is at 21%. Keeps the poops firm and the body from growing too fast. Plus Bowz is 11 months old. I think that is old enough for grain free. Is it not?

Seems like alot of alergy type issues going on. I was going to jump in earlier but thought I would wait until after the vet visit. Harley had the same symptoms as Bowser on his feet, the dark red color and also alot of shedding. He also had really dirty ears. The ear issue tuned out to be a yeast infection, I feel bad I didn't catch that earlier before it turned into that. I wonder if it was caused by his constant scuba diving when he gets in the water and his ears not drying well. The vet thought his feet may have been infected also, but the tests didn't show any infections, so it was some sort of alergy. She recomended also going on a limited ingredient food for a while as Queen mentioned. What the heck is going on with these dogs, he has had minor alergies before, but this crazy...Raw might be coming sooner than later even if i have to shop at the grocery store and pay the premium for now.
Hey Dan, sucks for poor Harley. Bowz is the same with the exception of the ear infection. I clean his ears regularly. The allergies may be the result of ragweed season. We have had a lot of rain here in Ontario, spiking the humidity and the growth of weeds. A lot of dogs seem to be sensitive to the plants.
