Frozen marrow bone that I got from the butcher. I get one for molly and one for Buster. I give Buster his in his crate and Molly eats hers in the kitchen. This is NOT the first time they have been given one.I have been buying them through out the summer. Well I just went in to see how Buster was making out with his bone and he growled at me for getting to close now mind you the crate door is shut and locked and all I did was walk over to the crate and said " YUM good bone huh" ( yes I talk to them ) he then growled which caught me off guard. I yelled NO and opened up his door to take the bone but he picked it up and went farther back into his crate.I reached in to take it and again he picked up the bone but this time growled and came forward at me.I shut the door cause I figured he would bite me if I didn't get my hand out of his area.I wish i could get the bone and this will be the last time he gets a bone again because I will not have this behavior with kids in the house. He has never acted like this before and doesn't act like this with his dinner or breakfast , why now?

Bones bones bones

Cause he really likes that bone and you are right it is in his space. You need to stop showing fear cause he can sense he is winning and rip that bone right out of the cage and leave him in the crate without. When he sees for doing that he won't get it back he'll learn to stop growling when you do that again. Takes time and patience but completely abstaining from giving them to him is probably a bad idea I think. He won't learn anything that way

Totally agree, I would have got that n bone of him and growled at him!

I awlawys hold the bone at first to see the reaction, but if your going to take the bone away, do it! don't let them see you are scared.

I would so angry by now, but I can sympathy with you. But girl u gotta get that bone. Try offering him another bone, he will drop the one his got, u grab it , but don't give him the other bone! slap him silly with it! j/k

Edit: Coax him out of his crate with the new bone, telling him how yummy it is......

Kelly what type of crate is it? Is it the ones where you can unsnap the sides and take the top off? If you cannot stop this behavior then it will escalate. However I do not suggest you getting hurt either. If your that scared, he knows it and you have let him win. :? Do you have any other way to get him out of his crate?

Could try getting the leash, all dogs love to go for walks. It has to be distraction, or else leave him to finish it and ignore him.

Hubby got home early and reached right in took the bone
He gave it back to him to get him chewing on it again and then I will go in and try to get it off of him.My hubby wants to see how Buster acts towards me when I try to get it :? Hopefully all goes well.I dont tolerate this behavior but this time he had me scared and it takes a lot to scare me and he got me but I am not one to give up so I will be going in again and hopefully I will win
