I'm new here, just wanted to say hi. Posted in the new member forum just a few mins ago w/ a pic.
My question is, my wife and I adopted a 3 yr old EB that was never spayed.
Well, we want to do what's right...long story short, Rudy goes in tomorrow.

Is there anything out of the ordinary we can expect, seeing that he's already 3 yrs old? I imagine it is a bit harder on the dog seeing as he's much older than normal....

Should I expect any problems that wouldn't otherwise come up with a puppy?

I don't think you (or Rudy) will necessarily experience any *problems* being that he's older, but the recovery will probably take a bit longer...he might be a little more sore, etc than a puppy would. Just be sure he has a quiet place to recover and try to limit his activity if he has stitches (no jumping on furniture, etc).

I know several members on here (myself included) have waited until their dog was 1 before neutering/spaying and they haven't had any issues.

I've had several adult male fosters that I had neutered, and never had any problems when the dog was normal and healthy. Like Tara said, he will probably take a little longer to bounce back than a puppy would. Just keep an eye on his incision, make sure he's not chewing or licking at the stitches.

Good luck to Rudy!
