This is Luchi, my gf and I are fostering him until he can find a new home. We're not sure what breed he is. We think he may have some Amstaff in him. The shelter we volunteer at labeled him a pit bull. He's a big sweetheart despite the horrible butchering of his ears.
We also have an Amstaff/possibly Lab mix. Great dogs!

we've had people guess maybe Amstaff/boston terrier or Amstaff/basenji. personally, i've never seen a pit or amstaff with white socks. and he's about 30 lbs and approx 6 mos old. he's at the vet now getting neutered.
I'm also debating the use of the harness. We're using it now on him because we have 3 other dogs and we're also allowing him to play at the dog park. it just makes it easier to grab him and pull him away if we need to without injuring his neck. he's still learning his boundaries among other dogs. right now, he thinks everyone is his friend, which isnt always the case.
he also likes to jump. and when he has the harness on, he doesnt jump as much. we're training him not to jump.
i'm thinking once he learns not to jump and learns about "strangers", we'll get a collar for him. a few people have told us to not use the harness at all. because the bull breeds tend to pull on the leash. but Luchi doesnt pull at all, yet. usually he's more concerned with who is behind him and looks back often to make sure we're still there.

My boy's got a sock, I thought he was an Amstaff mix as well.

Is it working? What method are you using?

basically, when he jumps or starts to, we immediately told him "OFF" and gave him a quick tug on the back of the harness until he got down on all fours. we dont say "Down". Down is our command for getting off the furniture or off the counters. if he does off, we rewarded him with a treat. now we just reward him with telling him he's a "good boy" and it's working.
thats why i like the harness, the strap between the shoulders is great to quickly grab him by and not hurt him any. it's like a little handle. at the shelter, he'd jump all over you. he's doing much better now.

Cute dog! i love his face! Luchi has socks on all four feet.

thank you all. we decided to foster him after we found out that no one else could. he had been at the shelter since Feb. a lot of people look at him, but when they see his ears or find out he's possibly a pit, they walk away. i guess they're afraid that he may have ear problems or problems with getting ear infections. and a lot of people here dont like pits or any bull breed. we have a problem here with people fighting dogs. they just arrested a guy for fighting pits. he had 4 dogs, all were stolen. and were chained up with 50 lb chains tied to cinder blocks. it's news like this that deters people from wanting to adopt bull breeds in our town. and unfortunately, those pits were probably put down. they were very sickly, badly abused. it's sad, because those dogs probably had loving homes and were stolen from them.
We do wonder if Luchi was going to be used as a bait or fight dog. i have heard that some people cut them off so they wont get tore off. it's cruel. fortunately, he was dropped off at the shelter. we dont know if it was just a good samaritan or the person fighting the dogs, but either way, Luchi has a better life now.

Good idea with the harness, I'll have to give it a try, thanks. And thank you for taking such good care of Luchi, he's really a cutie, even with the cut ears. Good luck on finding him a home.
