Oh my goodness I am so mad! Ok Harley is in heat and there is this medium sized male dog that has been running around our neighborhood for about 2 weeks. Well for the last 2 nights shes been running around. I called the shelter as I used to work there and it's 9PM so of course noone is there. So I called the humane officer as I new I could reach him at home and unless I catch it they won't come to get it. But anyways it climbed on top of my dog and I ripped her awy from him and he shot fross liquid all over my porch. Is she gonna get pregnant? Shes scheduled to be spayed on the 30th of January. I am a responsible pet owner and I have to deal with irresponsible pet owners that let their dogs run the streets. LAst night this dog chased some girl up on my porch and she was scared to death. I just don't know what to do because I can't even take Harley outside to go to the bathroom.

 Kelly :x

I think even if she's spayed end of Jan (which is only two weeks away) it should be ok even if she's pregnant. Let the vet know that there's a slight possibility, tell him/her what happened. Best of luck to you.

it'd be fine
same thing happened with me. my akita mix came into heat at 15 months, my dad tied her out front like an idiot and a male dog got her, had her spayed 2 weeks later, had no problems, i dont know if she was pregnant or not

OT, but allamerican, how'd you come to be so responsible about animals when your family doesn't seem to care so much about them? (please don't take that as disrespecting your family...you've just mentioned several things about them to that effect)

trust me, no offense taken
i honestly dont know how i came to be responsible....i was raised with dogs being outdoors and they were fed table scraps and ol roy when my dad could afford it and they never saw a vet, not even if they were sick or dying..when i was 13 i somehow learned that ol roy was crap and that maggie should be spayed..i convinced my dad to change her food(to purina then to science diet then to pro plan then chicken soup dog food and now raw) and get her spayed(she was 8 and had way too many litters but better late than never i guess) and i convinced him to let her come inside cause she was old...i worked for a vet when i was 15 and began to see how many animals were dumped..and then we got a computer about 4 or 5 years ago and i just began reading up on things like nutrition and spay/neuter and breeding and what not.....and from there on out i've just kept researching everything i can about dogs. i try to educate my family and have gotten through to my mom and 2 of my brothers and half way to my sister..but my dad and 2 of my other brothers just dont get it...

You're too bright to just be a groomer. Reach for the stars! What about a vet tech?
 i just dont want to be a vet or vet tech...i've seen what its about and it wasnt my cup of tea..

I am a dog groomer and It is the most rewarding job I have ever had. I am also going to college and plan to attend the univeristy vet program here. I dont want to be a tech but want the gusto.

Well My girlfriend owned a shop in the town we lived in and she wanted to move, so my hubby offered her a cash price to keep it open and she gave me the keys and left. I took over knowing nothing every dog left with go tee and eye brows. lol, anyway any customer that was dissatisfied I offered to groom for free until we got it right, and this worked , I went to seminars and hired experienced groomers to work for me , although they didn't know I knew nothing, what's funny is when i cleaned the place i threw away the muzzles since i had no idea what they were, and the other shops in town were sending me their biters. So I groomed dogs for a year that would bite without the use of muzzles. This blessing in disquise became my trade mark, capable of working with difficult dogs. I sold that business and now I have a mobile service and groom from my own home so I may stay home with my lot of kids.

You may find a place looking for bathers, this is the foot in the door to grooming, I would look to private businesses as petco and petsmart, are the new walmart of the pet business. An older experienced groomer will know all the tricks of the trade and your training will be more respected.
