How do I get Patch to stop jumping up on me ALL THE TIME!!!?

When he was a little puppy... it was ok... I didn't mind him jumping up on me all the time.

But the kid is getting bigger, and quite frankly, I can't handle the weight of his jumping!
He almost knocks me out!!!!!!!!!!! It happens almost EVERY time he sees me.... I can understand when it's first thing in the morning, or when I get home from work (he's excited to see me) but even if I go into the kitchen, he will follow me... and jump up on me a million times... and he's also jumping up the cupboards and smells the kitchen bench.

I tell him no and put him down... but he just goes ahead and does it again!! and again!!!

How can I discipline him to only jump up when I call him to!?

I think I need one of those collar things as well, Rex wont jump on me but he will strangers and I hate that, they say they dont mind but I think its rud eto just sit there and let your dog jump on people.
Heres the link

Anti Jump Dog harness
those harness things look really restrictive!
i don't think i could put that on Patch!.... gosh i'm so soft!

does the knee thing hurt them? i'd be worried about injuring him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but i will try it!

i just can't bear it anymore.
and when guests are over, he's usually outside in the yard, and if we go outside, he jumps up on them.... its so frustrating!

We were told by our trainer the knee thing was not the thing to do, I don't know why...She told us that when your dog jumps on you, turn around and don't touch the dog at all. If you touch the dog in any way shape or form with your hands, the dog thinks it has done something good, and will continue to do it. She said to just turn around/away from the dog.

Not saying the knee thing is wrong...just giving you another suggestion.
This is what I was taught at Puppy Pre-school, they said not to say ANYTHING when dogs jump on you because yeah it gives them attention. So you just turn the other way and cross your arms, when they come to the front of you and are not jumping you then ask them to sit, after they do this you should then greet them...because they have done something that you have asked and they should be rewarded for that.
easier said than done though eh?
how do you ignore a dog that's leaping at you with every bit of force it has????
sometimes i actually almost fall over cos he gets THAT excited to see me!

i will try it though.... ok, so cross my arms and look at the sky.... we'll see....
