Yeah sorry. Its like the emperors new clothes :D .Try it,do some research on the net.Dogs love meaty bones n raw chicken eggs n fish cos its what they should be eating.People who feed their dogs kipple n canned food dont know what they are giving their dogs and thats a fact.I know what my dogs are eating i dont have to read it from a bag or a can.
I will check it out. I am going to be trained in animal nutrition soon before I open my store. I may switch Zues to a Raw diet as I will be able to buy at wholesale.

me and the wife are switching the pup from royal canin to timberwolf. is it worth the extra money?
I was going to switch from Inova to Timberwolf and a lady talked me out of it as her dogs put weight on like crazy. She said it was a great food but better for high maintance dogs. She may be wrong but I have been getting many compliments with Zeus's coat so my next step will be Raw when I can afford it. I switched from Royal to Inova as Zeus's stools weren't solid.

After doing alot of research, I've come to the conclusion that this rating system.... well.... it stinks. Great intentions but poor execution. While the quality foods still got their recognition, there are some very crappy foods listed with high ratings. I was fooled into thinking Nutro and Royal Canin were good diets, but in reality they are mostly garbage and fillers.

One of the best sites I've found is http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/index.php . The site rates food not only on it's ingredient list but also the ratio of these. Now that I know, I personally wouldn't buy anything with less than a 5 star rating. Nutro and Royal Canin are 2 star foods.

Based on the research I've done, we've decided to feed our dogs Canidae All Life Stages while they are puppies. We're also switching the treats over to Innova EVO baked treats. Once they are over 18 months of age they will be switched over to Innova EVO kibble with mixings of Merrick's and raw. This is all pending their stomachs approval.
I'm glad to see Tiimberwolf has a top rating on that site too. Thanks :D

could someone rate this for me please?
wow timeberwolf is freaking awesome! but i cant get it in my wifes head to pay that much for a bag of dog food! she almost sheet her pants when we went to innova evo at $47 a 28lb bag! lol i told her we eat good so the dog has to also!

and from what i read from innova users. the dogs poop much less and its true almost once a day cameron will poop and just lil 4-5 inch logs and they do not stink at all
I know what you mean I paying around $70 bucks a bag, I can't wait till I get my store :D

Our breeder told us to feed our 9 week old EB Eukanuba. He said that is what he feeds all his puppies and he has been breeding for 40 years. But I notice Eukanuba puppy did not rate exceptionally well. He seems to be doing well with it, but should I consider switching? I don't mind paying a little extra if it's worth it.
It drives me nuts when I see breeders push foods like this. Many breeders get food at a reduced price as long as they recommend it. Some will also include these types of foods into the health contract. Eukanuba is simply Iams upper line which still isn't a quality meal. One of the most satisfying things about my job is convincing people to switch from these types of foods and having them return to tell me how great their dog or cat looks and how much more energy they have. The puppy stage is an important time so in my opinion now would be the perfect time to switch :D

I contacted Nutro with my concerns and I was visited by their sales manager assuring me that there is nothing to worry about. Nutro sent me this letter explaining things:

Re: NUTRO™ Product Quality Claims Made By ConsumerAffairs.com
June 23, 2008
For Discussion Purposes Only

Over the past several months, ConsumerAffairs.com, a self-described “independent Web-based consumer news and resource center,” not affiliated with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission or Consumer Reports, has been selectively posting consumer complaints and authoring its own statements that draw false links between isolated instances of illness and death among pets, and the consumption of NUTRO™ pet food products.

We want to assure our consumers, associates, retailers, and all those who feed NUTRO™ products to their pets that our products are safe and conform to the standards set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S Department of Agriculture and the Association of American Feed Control Officials. All NUTRO™ products undergo rigorous quality assurance testing beginning with raw ingredients and ending with testing all finished products. This includes testing to confirm that no melamine, mold toxins, or pathogenic bacteria are detected in any NUTRO™ pet foods.

A June 23 posting on ConsumerAffairs.com falsely claims that NUTRO™ pet foods may have been the cause of pet health issues in a number of specific cases. It should be noted that in some of these cases outside sources have provided clear verification that NUTRO™’s products were NOT the cause of any pet health issues. In others, NUTRO™ has taken active steps to address pet owners' concerns and determine the cause of pet health issues. While we continue in our efforts to contact owners there is nothing that indicates that these pet health issues were caused by NUTRO™ pet foods. Every NUTRO™ product that was analyzed in relation to the June 23 posting on ConsumerAffairs.com has been shown to be safe.

While consumer concerns about NUTRO™ product quality are rare, we take every complaint seriously. When we learn of an issue, we work with consumers to obtain information and request that samples of any product in question be submitted for testing at an independent facility. An in-depth review is performed to determine if an issue does exist. Consumers with questions or concerns about NUTRO™ products are encouraged to contact our Consumer Services Department at 1-800-833-5330.

There have also been some questions raised about the availability of some of our products. At a time of worldwide shortages of ingredients across the human and pet food industries, NUTRO™ has experienced various supply issues in efforts to secure enough volume of key ingredients used in select products. We have secured additional sources of high-quality supply for most raw materials, with the exception of adequate supplies of high-quality lamb meal. While the availability of lamb meal remains very tight, we are continuing to work with suppliers in New Zealand and in the U.S. to increase availability to NUTRO™. As a result, there are certain key Natural Choice® Lamb and Rice products for dogs that remain off the shelf. We are manufacturing and shipping
Natural Choice® Lamb Meal and Rice for adult dogs and Natural Choice® Small Bites Lamb Meal and Rice for adult dogs, which meet the nutritional requirements for dogs of all sizes and all ages. Natural Choice® Lite Rice and Lamb Meal is available for adult dogs.

It is important to understand that these availability issues are operational in nature and are not quality-related. We have refused to compromise our ingredient and product design standards, and while that has created some difficulty regarding availability we feel that it is critical that we maintain our standards for product quality and performance.

Our consumers are confident in NUTRO™ products. Over 250 million pounds of finished product have been purchased since Jan 1, 2008. Pet professionals across the country continue to choose NUTRO™ for their pets. Our Natural Choice brand dog food was recently chosen as the official pet food for the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, and many champion dogs are fed NUTRO™ products.

NUTRO™ Products, Inc. remains committed to the quality, safety and performance of all our pet food brands. As we have for over 80 years, we strive to deliver the finest natural products to our customers and their pets.

Jeff and I stumbled upon a health food store that sells Innova, Taste of the Wild and a few more organic pet foods. There were free samples of all the food they sell and the clerk gave us one of each to try. Wish all retailers would have samples of their food. Nothing worse than bringing home a high dollar food only to find your dog won't eat it.
I carry samples of some of my foods but I offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee so any food can be returned no matter what size the bag. I donate the food and i receive a company credit.

I am in need of advice. My 18 week old english bulldog was on royal canin for medium puppies (his last weight was 30lbs). I have been feeding him 3 cups a day. For the past week his is pooping all the time and it is soft. Sometimes it quickly comes out to where he cant hold it. I thought I was doing him a favor by trying eukenuba (sp), but now after reading the rating I am thinking I should try something different. I don't know what to do. :( Ps I did take a sample of stool to the vet and it was negative.
How long was he he eating it before he started getting the runs?
