I think 1 litter per year is fine, but only if she's bred no more than 3 times total. Anything more than that seems like it would be too hard on her body. (They look very uncomfortable!) This is assuming we're talking about responsible breeders, and not someone who just throws 2 dogs together for some money. If that were the case, 1 litter is one too many.

I'd just like to say, that I think people are talking about 2 different things here. If you're talking about a PROFESSIONAL, responsible breeder, like say Razor's Edge... then yes, I THINK once a year is fine. And I personally wouldn't do it MORE than once per year, as I feel there are too many dogs out there anyway, but that's JMO. That's what I tried to convey in my post. But I think most people on here are assuming you mean just any random person deciding to breed. Like if I suddenly decided to breed my 2 dogs (they are fixed, but for the sake of argument, let's pretend they're not)... then yes, once a year or ANY breeding at all would be too many, and would make me a BYB. People are debating over 2 very different things.
