We feed Diesel 2 large cups of food per day and he's gaining weight at quite the rapid pace. When we got him about 3 months ago he was 11 pounds he is now 38 pounds. He is a pit bull, we're still not sure if he's all pit or if he's mixed. The vet has him on a special food since he seems to have quite the sensitive belly. We're getting ready to start trying to mix in his regular food to his prescribed food in hopes that he doesn't start with diarrhea all over again.

How much and how often do you feed your pit bulls? We feed both dogs once a day. Just wanting to make sure we're giving our high energy little stinker enough food.

Usually feed pups twice a day, morning and evening. About 2 to 3 cups of
good kibble, split per feeding. Male pit bulls usually weigh in between 50 to 65 lbs tops
as a full grown adult. Clara is a female and she weighs 43 lbs. She's two.

Depends on the food. Higher quality foods tend to need smaller portions due to nutritional density. Follow the directions on the food bag.

As for frequency, I read that you should feed puppied 3x a day until 6-months, and then 2x after that.

Read through the stickey on food in this section. Many times dogs have upset and sensative stomachs because of the food they are eating. One person on this board, their dog was throwing up all the time, turned out he was allergic to chicken! which is most foods. Also, many of the times, the food the Vet gives you only covers up the problem because their food is not much better

But Kate gets 3 cups a day.... 1 1/2 in the am and 1 1/2 in the evening

Thank you for your replies. We originally had Diesel on Nutro MAx Lamb and Rice for puppy since Nutro Max is the only food out there that I know of that doesn't contain any bi-product in it. He's still on his prescription food and we're gradually mixing his regular food in and so far so good.

What "new" food are you going to start feeding him? Nutro MAX is terrible...it is Nutro's cheap brand of food and contains corn/wheat, etc. all things that can cause digestive upset. Nutro Natural or Nutro Ultra would be the better choices within that brand. If your dog had digestive upset, look into Dick Van Patten's Duck and Potato..or any other natural type food that contains no corn, wheat, soy or by-products.

As far as amount, every dog is different with varying activity levels and metabolisms. Follow the bag guidelines..if your dog looks heavy, decrease by 1/2-1 cup. If he looks thin, increase by 1/2-1 cup.
